The "universal" tariffs Trump imposed yesterday, along with his tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China use authorities in the International Emergency Economy Powers Act (IEEPA). @repdelbene.bsky.social and I responded by introducing the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act: bsky.app/profile/repd...
Trump has promised sweeping tariffs on imports. Tariffs are fees that Americans will pay to the tune of thousands of dollars a year. I introduced legislation to require any president to come to Congress before implementing such sweeping economic changes. www.kuow.org/stories/wa-c...
Each Trump tariff uses specific legal authorities. He's abusing them in ways their authors did not intend. I'm working with my @waysmeanscmte.bsky.social Trade Subcommittee colleagues on legislation to reform those authorities and stop Trump from wrecking the economy. Info on those bills—
Trump is raising costs and tanking our economy. Statement from New Dem chair @repschneider.bsky.social and Trade & Tariffs Task Force Chair @beyer.house.gov on Trump's 25% tax on all automobile imports and massive taxes on on virtually every good imported from every U.S. trading partner ⬇️
We don’t have to let Trump wreck our economy with tariffs—that’s a choice. The Constitution gives trade authority to Congress, not the President. Congress delegated tariff powers to the President and we can take them back. We have the bills (one is mine). We just need enough support to pass them.
Shockingly, Mike Waltz' investigation of himself turned up none of this. Amazing how that works! This scandal is corrupt as hell. Waltz and top officials like Hegseth and Gabbard involved in this egregious breach of security must go, and we need a special counsel to investigate.
Washington Post: Waltz and staff used Gmail for government communications, officials say
Trump’s national security adviser is trying to manage his way out of a crisis. But new revelations about his team’s operational security are piling up in the inbox.
Politico:
Waltz’s team set up at least 20 Signal group chats for crises across the world
It’s a more extensive use of the app than previously reported and sheds new light on how commonly the Trump administration’s national security team relies on Signal.
The United States Institute of Peace is a private, independent nonprofit not a federal agency. Trump and Musk have no more authority to take it over than they have to seize assets of the American Red Cross or replace the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops with Elon Musk’s young stooges.
Leavitt: "There have been bureaucrats at some of these agencies that have been trying to act independent. They need to remember who they work for. It's the executive of the executive branch. You look at the US Institute of Peace for example ... "
Union membership is a driver for helping workers realize the American dream. I'm standing up for workers' rights with national leaders, and fighting back against Donald Trump's illegal attack on federal employees' collective bargaining rights.
Elon Musk has called Social Security "a Ponzi scheme." He wants to "eliminate" it, he says. As my friend @petebuttigieg.bsky.social put it, "They are breaking Social Security, because they do not like Social Security." I will be fighting like hell to stop them. We need to keep the pressure up.
We've heard concerning things about the Social Security Administration lately, so I decided to check for myself. SSA says Wednesday is the best day to call, so I called then. Their system told me there would be a two-hour wait time, told me to call back, and then just hung up.
