Congratulations to Team UT Austin on being one of the top three finalists at the European Union in the United States #SchumanChallenge! These bright Longhorns competed against 27 different universities, sharing ideas on ways to improve our important Trans-Atlantic relationship.
Pope Francis worked to protect the environment from the ravages of climate change and championed those on the margins. With humility, he was instrumental in advancing progress on inclusivity and acceptance, and more. May we all be inspired to do the most for the least among us.
Libby and I wish a peaceful and happy Easter to all who celebrate in Austin and throughout the nation! May it be a day filled with blessings, reflection, and gratitude.
Trump is reportedly preparing to disappear about another 200 immigrants to El Salvador without offering evidence to justify their deportation. Families cruelly torn apart as loved ones are snatched. This unlawful cruelty must not stand.
Wrecking yet another valued initiative, Trump, through DOGE, ordered 75% of full-time AmeriCorps employees not to return to work. Americorps offers youth work in public service for a modest salary & a grant to help w/college costs. Trump is ruining what for decades has been a win/win for America.
After taking $10M from an out-of-state billionaire to target anti-voucher Republicans & refusing to permit Texans to vote on his scheme, Abbott couldn’t prevail without Trump. That’s not leadership—it’s contempt for TX voters, educators, students & parents who deserved a say in their kids’ future.
Book bans and whitewashing of history are straight out of the fascist playbook & should alarm any freedom-loving patriot. Naval Academy cadets shouldn't have a censored worldview, but DoD Sec. Hegseth purged books like Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" and kept Hitler's Mein Kampf.
About two-thirds of nursing home residents receive care because of Medicaid. I continue to hear from Austinites with no means or family members to rely on if Republicans fulfill their plan to cut Medicaid. Tell the GOP to keep their #HandsOff this critical health program protecting our loved ones.
Our Letter Carriers come through in all kinds of weather—both natural and political. Joining National Association of Letter Carriers from Austin and across Texas, including Les Doss, Billy Moody, Luis Palacios, and Cesar Hernandez in opposing Trump/Musk plans to privatize USPS.
Republicans want to cut nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid, a program providing lifesaving health care to vulnerable Texans, including: 3 million children 700,000+ seniors and individuals with disabilities 250,000+ pregnant women #HandsOffMedicaid
GOP attacks on the Ed Dept are an attack on our children's futures. Musk/Trump slash & burn tactics endanger $41M in federal funds received this school year by Austin ISD--many schools in disadvantaged areas, students w/special needs, bilingual programs, homeless students, educator training & more.
One Ukrainian woman described the playground that Putin struck with a ballistic missile, killing nine children, as a “field of corpses.” The UN says that 164 Ukrainian civilians were killed last month. Trump continues to absolve the war criminal Putin from accountability.
Our TX-37 Congressional App Challenge winner from Westwood High School, Yuegelica Yeong was on the Hill for #HouseofCode to present her app Homonium. With Austin at the forefront of the tech industry, it’s great to meet the young and bright minds who will become the leaders of tomorrow.
Too often, some nursing home chains try to pocket more money by cutting corners and reducing quality of care. This outrageous order blocking federal nursing home staffing standards endangers the well-being of thousands of seniors and individuals with disabilities.
