In addition to Trump's higher prices and multiple other failures, he denies the existence of trans people with divisive policies of hate. They deserve the freedom to live openly, make their own medical decisions, and protection of our laws. I join colleagues in recognizing #TransDayOfVisibility.
Trump/Musk cuts to critical research funds is estimated to cost Travis Co $43 million in economic and job loss. Republicans approved even more cuts in their government funding bill. I will keep standing up for science and fighting for investments that keep clinical trials and research labs open.
Pleased to visit with Monica Muñoz Andry and Brittney Rodriguez from Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, whose work is strengthening economic opportunities, supporting Hispanic entrepreneurs in the Austin area, and ensuring our community continues to thrive.
More cost breaks for GOP donors at the cost of our families. Trump's EPA is preparing to erase its mission & undo key air/water regulations on tailpipes and smokestacks. Climate regulations may become a memory. Your water may not be clear, but it's clear billionaires get what they pay for w/Trump.
Trump’s “Liberation Day” on April 2 will increase tariff taxes, calling this a tax cut. Though claiming he’d lower prices, Trump said he “couldn’t care less” that he’s increasing car prices. GOP silence allows him to liberate more dollars from your pockets while telling you to be happy about it.
Honoring Tony Padilla, who passed away after a long battle with cancer. I met him decades ago as a railway worker and advocate for working families, and he more recently continued his advocacy through the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. My sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
Trump promised he was on your side. He lied. His new attack on patriotic American civil servants and attempt to repeal their federal workers' rights is an affront to decades of hard-fought progress.
Americans are fighting back against Trump cuts to Social Security phone services. A modest victory delaying this terrible policy and providing some exception for disabled individuals. We need more neighbors demanding Republicans stop meddling with this hard-earned benefit.
Elon Musk can’t handle the judicial system doing its job and blocking him and Trump from unlawfully wreaking havoc on our country. So, what does he do? Throw money at any complicit Republican ready to undermine our system of checks and balances.
More Americans will die from both current & future disease outbreaks because Trump and his appointees are dismantling our public health defenses through egregious funding cuts and the abrupt firing of thousands of health workers as well as the termination of lifesaving research at UT and elsewhere.
All of us are endangered by alarming Trump interference in important UT research & elsewhere. After his groundbreaking COVID vaccine success, Dr. Jason McLellan’s funding to develop meds for multiple viruses is being cut. Taking “a break” from infectious disease research means more people die.
Fiscally irresponsible Republicans insisted on government funding limp from one short-term resolution to another rather than approving annual appropriations. As a result, our City and others will miss out on millions I fought to secure for domestic violence survivors and more.
Sudden loss of strong voice in struggle for justice and opportunity in Texas. Good humor, good values, good messaging. Valued friend for decades, DC neighbor & later a constituent, who always made us “Believe in Martindale.” Photo from 150th; Martindale is now 160 but w/out its biggest advocate.
COVID-19 killed more than 1.2 million Americans & nearly 20 million suffer from Long COVID. After promoting dangerous conspiracy theories like horse dewormers and bleach as treatments, the new Trump response is to cut vital research funding used to find evidence-based treatments, vaccines & cures.
Trump's April 2 “Liberation Day” is when he liberates many dollars from your wallet. In the spirit of April Fool’s Day, Trump is imposing massive new tariff taxes, raising prices, and claiming it’s good for you while the GOP continues ignoring the reality of his wrongs.
This massively dumb security breach, which imperiled the lives of our military, follows the normal Trump approach: Step 1: Blunder/Fail Step 2: Lie and never apologize Step 3: Blame the press Step 4: Rely on GOP silence Step 5: Distract and assume you can change the subject
I support the military officers and veterans calling my office demanding Pete Hegseth and Mike Waltz be fired for placing troops in harm's way. By texting classified information ahead of US military strikes, Trump and his incompetent "national security" team showed they are wildly unfit for the job.
