I was proud to support the gun violence prevention efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration, that led to real progress in our city. This funding freeze is shameful and only endangers the lives of more innocent Philadelphians.
This is ANOTHER partial government shutdown – coming as Republican lawmakers prepare to surrender Congress’ power of the purse to Musk & Trump. Funding for our kids’ schools is at stake, along with student loan oversight & more.
Tweet from Shelby Talcott. Text says “Scoop: Per person familiar, "reduction in force" notices for the Education Department are expected to go out today at 6pm.

Nearly half of the department is expected to be eliminated.”
Co-presidents Musk & Trump have already caused partial government shutdowns through mass firings and funding freezes. The congressional GOP's funding package will only worsen these cuts, hurting veterans, seniors, and hard-working families in Philly and beyond. If I could, I would vote HELL No.
“Entitlements” = Republican Establishment phrase for your EARNED benefits like Social Security & Medicare – benefits that I & my Democratic colleagues will keep fighting to defend from Co-Presidents Musk & Trump!
Elon Musk reiterated his intention to destroy programs like Social Security, which he has called a Ponzi scheme: "Most of the federal spending is entitlements... that’s the big one to eliminate."
The Philly region receives $1.7 BILLION in NIH funding- making life-saving research, from developing cancer vaccines to studying rare disease treatments, possible. A physician-scientist from Center City, said: "If the goal is to Make America Healthy Again, (cutting) this does the exact opposite."
Graphic with a quote from a Physician-Scientist from Center City. Text says: I can say without question that [NIH grant funding] made my scientific research much stronger, and opened doors to think about ways to develop new therapies, start new collaborations, and design future clinical studies... To come in and rapidly slash this funding without considering the devastating consequences it can have on biomedical research in the U.S. is short-sighted, ill-informed, and cruel. If the goal is to Make America Healthy Again, this does the exact opposite.
Hey #Philly! Join Governor Shapiro, Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings, a representative from the ACLU, and myself for a telephone town hall TODAY at 11 AM. You can dial in at 888-480-3686 or go to evans.house.gov/live
I'm very pleased to announce that Governor Shapiro, Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings, and a representative from the ACLU will be joining me this SATURDAY, March 8 from 11 AM to 12 PM for a telephone town hall! Sign up by 1 PM Friday to be called at evans.house.gov/live

Last week, almost every single House Republican voted to gut Medicaid and take away critical care from people like Katie from Northwest Philly. #ICYMI this week I talked to Kathy, Katie's mom, about how these cuts will impact her family.
I took some time today to speak with Kathy, a mom from Northwest Philadelphia whose daughter relies on Medicaid. She told me Republicans’ proposed cuts feel like "an unfathomably cruel abandonment." Listen to our conversation below.
Thank you to The Chestnut Hill Local for reporting on my State of the District report! #ICYMI in 2024, I secured over $13.3 million in federal funding for #PA03 and my office helped return another $4.5 million back to Philadelphians from federal agencies!
VA Secretary Collins tells veterans concerned about the impact of Trump’s mass firings on their EARNED health care & benefits: "We'll be making major changes. So, get used to it." I oppose the Trump-Musk mass firings and funding freezes and will continue to speak out against them!
This is a disgusting betrayal of our nation's veterans by draft-dodger Donald Trump. Gutting the VA will only make it harder for veterans in Philadelphia and beyond to access the health care and benefits they have EARNED.
House Republicans want to cut Social Security's EARNED benefits and close offices across the country that serve seniors. House Democrats have a better idea: #ScrapTheCap so that millionaires and billionaires, like Elon Musk, pay their fair share all year long!
