After over 26 consecutive hours,
@energycommerce.bsky.social Democrats fought throughout the night to protect Medicaid and other vital programs from extreme Republican cuts that would impact every American.
Here are my thoughts after finally catching up on (some) sleep. 🧵

Hardline GOP tanked their own bill b/c the cuts to Medicaid & other programs weren’t STEEP enough. 😵💫
At a time when so many families are struggling, so-called “moderate” GOP are just fine taking healthcare away from 13.7m Americans to give tax breaks to those who need it the least. Makes no sense.
🚨DOGE turns on House GOP🚨
While it’s great that DOGEai has an algorithm that filters out GOP spin, the American people will always have House Democrats fighting for them.
@housedemocrats.bsky.social
No president can rewrite our Constitution with the stroke of a pen.
I was proud to stand alongside my @hispaniccaucus.bsky.social & @housedemocrats.bsky.social colleagues in defending birthright citizenship. Great to see NJ leading the fight at the Supreme Court today.
After 26 straight hours of House GOP spin, one of their own finally said the quiet part out loud and spoke the truth.
Republicans are CUTTING Medicaid and taking away healthcare from 13.7 MILLION Americans.
For what? A tax break to those who need it the least (i.e., the top 0.01%).
Republicans think that NONE of the 13.7m people who could lose healthcare will lose it because of Republican red tape and reporting requirements. That’s nonsense.
Democrats stand united in making healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Americans.

Instead of working together to fill gaps in access to reproductive healthcare across the country, Republicans want to cut funding for Planned Parenthood.
More of the same from House GOP. Energy & Commerce Dems are fighting for access to reproductive healthcare for all.
[Time stamp: 10:35 AM]
Republicans think they’re fooling the American people when they say they’re “shifting” people off Medicaid when we all know people are losing healthcare coverage under this bill.
We’re not buying it, and neither should you.

My amendment is simple: if this bill causes Americans to die from losing health care, it can't take effect.
If my Republican colleagues truly believed their cuts wouldn’t hurt people, they should’ve had no problem voting to protect people.
Spoiler alert: None of them voted for it.
@housedemocrats.bsky.social aren’t going anywhere and we will continue to uplift the stories of those who rely on Medicaid.
What a surprise - Republicans waited until 1am to discuss their drastic cuts to Medicaid.
If they aren’t taking healthcare from 13.7 million Americans and if this is good for all Americans, then why wouldn’t they want to talk about it when everyone’s watching? 🤔
But if Republicans are so against the IRA, why not give the money back so they don’t have to take healthcare away from millions of Americans? 🤷🏻♂️
No Republicans voted for the Inflation Reduction Act calling it a “travesty” and funding from it “wasteful” yet:
✅ they showed up for the ribbon cuttings
✅ boasted to their constituents about bringing federal money back
This shouldn’t be controversial—yet Republicans voted against it & are continuing to put our children’s health at risk.
That’s why I introduced an amendment in @energycommerce.bsky.social to protect funding to improve air quality in schools.
The last thing a parent should worry about is whether the air in their child’s classroom is safe to breathe.
Newark’s Ironbound - where one in four children suffer from asthma - has endured environmental injustice for far too long.
Now, Republicans are cutting programs that would right these historical injustices and support communities like the Ironbound. It’s completely unacceptable.
Renaming parts of Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park is a wonderful tribute to a man who gave everything for the community he loved.
Proud to vote yes in honor of him tonight.
My dear friend, Bill Pascrell, embodied the spirit of New Jersey and his hometown of Paterson (“one t”).
Relentless, fearless, and devoted to his community.
