Elon Musk and Donald Trump are ripping food out of the mouths of our students who deserve healthy meals to thrive in and out of the classroom. This will be devastating for Massachusetts and the cruelty is the point. www.wbur.org/news/2025/03...
The unlawful arrest and detainment of Mahmoud Khalil should be a five-alarm fire for anyone who cares about free speech and our democracy. We're demanding answers and we cannot allow this abuse of power to go unchecked.
🚨BREAKING: With @raskin.house.gov & @scanlon.house.gov, I’m leading 100+ House Democrats in demanding answers on Mahmoud Khalil’s arrest. Trump’s attempt to deport Khalil is authoritarian & an attack on the First Amendment. We won’t sit quietly as his administration tries to dismantle free speech.
The Republicans’ budget bill that passed the Senate is nothing short of devastating. And every Representative & Senator who voted to support it has let down the communities that elected them to be their voice in Congress. My full statement:

Rep. Pressley’s Statement on Senate Passage of Republican Government Budget Bill (1/2):

“The Republicans’ budget bill that just passed the Senate is nothing short of devastating. Every Representative and Senator who voted to support it has let down the communities that elected them to be their voice in Congress. Rather than listen to the pleas from constituents in town halls across the country, Republicans chose to ignore them.

“When our communities begin to feel the harm of this reckless budget, there will be no one to blame but Republicans licking the boots of Donald Trump and Elon Musk and the handful of Democrats who chose not to fight. Tonight, I am thinking of the kids in pediatric cancer trials, the parents trying to stretch their dollars to cover groceries and the federal workers wronged by this cruel Trump White House and all of the people across this country who are failed by this budget.
Rep. Pressley’s Statement on Senate Passage of Republican Government Budget Bill (2/2):

“I voted NO on this bad-faith budget bill. I refuse to be complicit in Republicans’ attack on our most vulnerable, and I’m grateful to the overwhelming number of Democratic colleagues in both chambers who held the line and joined us in opposing this disgraceful legislation. I will always center the people, and I will continue standing in the gap and fighting this Administration like lives depend on it, because they do.”
These dedicated civil servants are damn good at what they do & our communities are better served by having them on the job. This sends a powerful message to Musk & Trump that we will not back down & we'll keep pushing until every federal worker can continue their essential work.
Tens of thousands of fired workers at Treasury, Defense and other agencies can get their jobs back, a federal judge ruled.
Let me repeat: @democrats.senate.gov should NOT be voting to move forward with the harmful Musk-Trump funding bill. Democrats should hold the line and press for a bill that funds the essential services that people need. Do not give up your leverage. The people are counting on you.
There is no just world in which abortion providers should have to fear for their lives & that of their patients. Proud to reintroduce my resolution with @hirono.senate.gov to designate Abortion Provider Appreciation Day & affirm the dignity, safety, & appreciation they deserve.
Thank you to Massachusetts leaders @pressley.house.gov and Rep James McGovern for defending the First Amendment. The Trump administration illegally arrested and detained Mahmoud Khalil, a lawful permanent resident, in retaliation for his advocacy. He must be immediately released from custody.
Mahmoud Khalil should be at home with his pregnant wife. Instead, he's been illegally abducted & had his constitutional right to free speech & due process stripped. We're demanding his immediate release and we cannot allow this abuse of power to go unchecked. #FreeMahmoudKhalil

Public programs cut. Economy in shambles. Federal workforce gutted. And Donald Trump is cosplaying as a car salesman to help billionaire Elon Musk, whose Tesla stocks have dropped. This is corruption, plain and simple, and they are unserious about doing the people’s work.
Donald Trump cosplaying as a car salesman.
Recklessly firing thousands of workers at the U.S. Department of Education is an assault on our students and educators. This will undermine public education, threaten civil rights enforcement, and harm our most vulnerable.
Breaking News: The Education Department announced that it was firing more than 1,300 workers, effectively gutting the agency. The layoffs mean that the department will now have a work force of about half the size it did when President Trump took office.
Republicans' shameful bill would make people in my district hungrier, poorer, and sicker. And it would embolden Musk and Trump to continue gutting essential services, ransacking federal agencies, and attacking our democracy. I voted NO. My full statement.

Rep. Pressley’s Statement Opposing Republicans’ Shameful Government Budget Bill (1/2):

“Republicans’ bill is an absolute disgrace that would harm everyone who calls the Massachusetts 7th and America home. Instead of helping people make ends meet, this bill would harm our most vulnerable by cutting essential health and food assistance programs that families, seniors, and veterans depend on to survive.

“Instead of helping people stay safely housed, this bill would slash affordable housing and put elders, veterans, domestic violence survivors, and folks with disabilities at risk of eviction. Instead of reigning in Elon Musk’s unlawful assault on our federal government, this bill provides a blank check for him to continue dismantling government services—all while doing nothing to fund local community projects or protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
Rep. Pressley’s Statement Opposing Republicans’ Shameful Government Budget Bill (2/2):

“Simply put, this bad-faith bill would make people in my district and across the country hungrier, poorer, and sicker, and it would further embolden Elon Musk and Donald Trump to continue gutting essential services, ransacking federal agencies, and attacking our democracy.

“I voted NO on this harmful legislation and I urge Senators from every state to prioritize their constituents and hold the line and vote NO as well. I remain ready to work with anyone who is serious about advancing progress, alleviating harm, and doing the work of the people.”

Immigration is essential to the success of Boston. That’s why I’m grateful for the incredible leadership and partnership of @mayorwu.boston.gov, whose commitment to making Boston a welcoming home for everyone is a national model. Republicans could learn a thing or two from her.

We break concrete ceilings. We fight for our communities. Our voices are powerful. On International Women’s Day, we recommit to fighting for bold policies like abortion justice, the ERA, pay equity, paid leave, & more.
