Republicans in Congress would rather fearmonger against trans people than work to lower the cost of living. As a member of @equality.house.gov, I won’t let them get away with attacking transgender people to distract from their conference’s inability to deliver for American families.
Donald Trump doesn't care about law and order. If he did, he wouldn't be arresting children and pardoning cop-beaters.
In Congress, I'm committed to ending disparities around HIV & AIDS prevention & care facing Black communities.
We can only end HIV & AIDS if we make sure EVERY American has access to resources like PrEP & treatment. #NBHAAD
Musk's plan to slash USAID from 14k dedicated civil servants to less than 300 is not only dangerous - it's illegal. If he's looking for programs to cut or scale back, maybe he should take a look at the $20 billion in gov't subsidies his companies receive.
I attended the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents this past week to celebrate their 50th anniversary and share what I'm doing on your behalf in Washington, D.C.
Donald Trump spent his week scrubbing contraception prescription information off the CDC website. 200 House Democrats spent ours reintroducing the Right to Contraception Act. Proud to stand with the Reproductive Caucus and for your right to the birth control method of your choice.
I spent this week meeting with schools and universities from across Illinois - all of whom are concerned about President Trump threatening to eliminate the Department of Education. Our students deserve a quality education, not uncertainty of whether there will be a school for them to attend.
RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine efforts have caused significant harm to our nation's health over the years. Vaccines are one of our most important public health tools for controlling and even eradicating disease. RFK Jr. is not qualified to be HHS Secretary.
Trump is driven by the prospect of real estate development in Gaza, implying he'd send U.S. troops there, while Netanyahu will do everything he can to remain in power. Neither want a lasting peace, which begins with the return of all remaining Israeli hostages still held by Hamas.
I am appalled by Trump's call to "take over" and "own" Gaza at his joint press conference today. Make no mistake: This is a call for ethnic cleansing. Neither Trump nor Netanyahu have the best interests of Israelis and Palestinians in mind, which is an end to the war in Gaza.
Musk’s unfettered access to our nation’s most sensitive information is appalling and his outweighed influence over this administration must be checked. I call on all of my colleagues to rebuff this power grab and reassert our congressional authority.
Trump's first Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said "If you don't fully fund the State Department, please buy a little more ammunition for me because I'm going to need it." Musk's unlawful decision, supported by Trump, to shutter USAID compromises national and international security.
I'm happy to see the CDC is restoring some of its pages and datasets, but they shouldn't have been deleted to begin with. President Trump's wrecking ball demolition of our public health infrastructure is dangerous and unacceptable.
This World Cancer Day, I am working in Congress to invest in cancer prevention, research, and care. We must do all that we can to find cures for cancer and save lives.
Our country is a better place because of the contributions of Black Americans. This Black History Month, we honor and recognize the extraordinary achievements of Black Americans in every part of American life and culture.
Our national security is on the line with Trump's picks for Director of National Intelligence and FBI Director. Intel and law enforcement leaders have sounded the alarm. Tulsi Gabbard has praised dictators while Kash Patel has trafficked in "deep state" conspiracies - neither is fit to serve.
The plane crash in Washington, D.C. is a devastating tragedy. My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those lost and all those impacted by this unspeakable event.
Happy Lunar New Year!
As we welcome the new year, I wish all who celebrate a year of great abundance and prosperity.
My office has been contacted by constituents concerned about their SNAP benefits being cut off, multiple local non-profits that can no longer pay their staff, and an education program that may have to close its doors. This is how the Trump administration is "helping" the American people.
Not even the Trump administration itself seems to understand how disastrous their spending cuts are. The White House press secretary said she would need to “check back” on whether Medicaid is impacted while states are are actively locked out of the system.
