After 15 months of war, I’m grateful that Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire agreement. For the families of the remaining hostages held in Gaza, this deal brings an end to 15 months of agony. For Palestinian civilians, this means a reprieve from 15 months of devastation.
ICYMI: Earlier this week I took to the House floor to defend trans kids and call on Republicans to stop wasting Congress's time and start working on the things Americans actually care about.
🚨 TPS has been extended for Ukraine for another 18 months, from April 20, 2025, through October 19, 2026. If you are currently in the United States from Ukraine under TPS, you can now re-register. If you or a family member needs help with this process, my office is always here.
I was pleased to learn that Morton Arboretum has announced its latest grant awardees for underserved communities and two of them are in IL-05! Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, Palatine and Schiller Park will now have funding to help improve urban and community forestry.
We need a clear accounting of what happened on January 6 and clear accountability to ensure it never happens again. Unfortunately, under this incoming President and Congress, it appears we will get neither.
Instead of focusing on lowering prices for American families or addressing the growing natural disaster in California, Republicans are using the first weeks of the new Congress to attack vulnerable populations. This time, they’ve chosen to target kids.
Pete Hegseth's hearing proves that he is unfit for the key position of SecDef. He has antiquated views on women and members of the LGBTQ+ community and has been accused of drinking on the job and sexual assault. Our service members are held to a higher standard than Trump's pick.
Civil society has broken down completely in Gaza and the territory urgently needs a peacekeeping force to help restore order. This force - ideally composed of Arab states - will play a critical role now and in post-war Gaza. 📺 Watch my full remarks on the House floor now:
EPA’s Investing in America Report reveals a period of transformative progress in: 🏭 Tackling climate pollution ⚖️ Advancing environmental justice 💧 Delivering cleaner air and water ⛰️ Revitalizing and cleaning up land 🤝 Protecting communities
On Korean American Day, we celebrate and honor the countless ways that Korean Americans have enriched our communities and culture since the arrival of the first Korean immigrants 122 years ago.
I'm grateful the Biden administration is taking steps to protect legal immigrants as we confront an incoming administration determined to scapegoat the immigrant community as a whole. Our nation is a stronger and more interesting place thanks to immigrants.
I spent time at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center this week learning about how the Community Project Funding I secured for them has made a difference in the community.
I was happy to join my colleagues this week to celebrate the full funding of the Red Line Extension project. This is a major step in building a more equitable transit system for our city. I’m proud to have helped bring this funding back to Chicago and I look forward to seeing construction begin.
Undocumented immigrants convicted of felonies are already subject to deportation. The Laken Riley Act would mandate detention for individuals, including DREAMers and TPS recipients, who have only been accused of crimes, not convicted. It's contrary to everything our justice system stands for.
My thoughts are with the residents of California who are enduring a horrifying disaster. I echo millions of Americans in thanking the first responders who are working day and night to save lives and bring these fires under control.
But we cannot wait until this war ends for humanitarian aid to be widely distributed in Gaza. A peacekeeping force is the only way for this aid to enter and reach the people who desperately need it.
I am calling for the immediate establishment of a peacekeeping force, composed of Arab states, to help restore order in the Gaza Strip. It is imperative that this brutal war comes to an end so the remaining hostages are released.
