“Even as communities across the country have struggled to pick up the pieces left in their wake, we have been forced to contend with another injustice—an administration that has tried to convince us time and time again that what we have seen with our own eyes is not the truth.”
The bills we are considering tonight make not a single one of these changes, and I have no confidence the Trump administration will participate in good faith negotiations to make these changes over the next two weeks.
no wearing of masks but wearing of body cameras; avoid arresting people in schools, hospitals, and churches; no stripping of children from their families; and penalties when officers violate the Constitution.
As I have said repeatedly, the American people must be assured that ICE is subject to the same, common-sense practices we expect from well-functioning local law enforcement:
Kristi Noem’s ICE is spreading violence with zero accountability. Across Colorado and the nation, masked agents are detaining children and separating families. We cannot fund this cruelty.
President Trump's rapid approval of winter storm disaster aid proves what's possible with political will. While Colorado is still reeling from the Lee and Elk wildfires and historic Southwest flooding, Trump has yet to approve disaster aid for our communities.
Trump is denying veterans the autonomy to make choices about their own health. Congress must immediately overturn this ban and restore full access to the reproductive care that every woman deserves. Veterans who sacrificed for our country shouldn’t be punished for their service.
Alex was an ICU nurse whose last moments were spent helping a woman who was harmed by immigration agents. We cannot let this administration continue to lie to the American people. I won’t stop fighting for truth and justice for the Pretti family.
Coloradans Susan and Michael Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti who was shot and killed in Minnesota, are urging us to get the truth out about their son.
On #HolocaustRemembranceDay, we honor the six million Jews and millions of others murdered by the Nazi regime. Never again demands more than remembrance – it requires us to confront antisemitism, hate, and bigotry wherever it takes root.
My mother was born a Jew in Warsaw one year before the Nazi invasion of Poland. My mother and her parents escaped the Holocaust, but lost nearly everyone else in their family.
I am horrified to hear ICE murdered another person in Minneapolis this morning. This violence is wreaking havoc on our communities and it must stop. The President needs to remove these federal agents from our cities now. Kristi Noem must resign and the dehumanizing policies must end immediately.
This legislation hands ICE a blank check without sufficient safeguards or accountability. The Senate must reject this bill—and Kristi Noem must resign. (2/2)
