Happy Pride Month! Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity & respect— regardless of who they are or who they love. More than a celebration, we recommit ourselves to creating a nation where everyone can be their whole authentic selves & love freely.
Our bone-crushing sanctions bill, scorching Russia’s economy, will hopefully pass within the next few weeks. Also important & supported by France, is greater use of frozen Russian assets, held by European nations, to help reconstruct Ukraine & stop Russia’s destruction.
Europe is strongly united in support of Ukraine & our Russia Sanctions bill— a major takeaway from our highly encouraging meeting with the French Foreign Minister. He’s deeply impressed that 82 Senators, an overwhelming bipartisan group, have joined. France is leading!
Far from independent & impartial, they’re political lackeys— lapdogs not watchdogs. Votes confirming them will come back to bite my Senate colleagues.
If he really cared about waste & fraud, Trump wouldn’t be selecting unqualified, compromised Inspector General nominees—to replace highly qualified investigators he illegally fired. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
More momentum on our bipartisan Russia Sanctions bill, spurred by Putin spurning serious peace talks & his sickening, bloody bombing. He’s playing our President and Ukrainians are literally paying with their lives. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/27/u...
Very special morning in Naugatuck— joining Mayor Pete Hess, & Amy Morrissey (our spectacular summer intern in DC, rising Harvard sophomore & daughter of Andy Morrissey, a highly respected veterans leader) at the Memorial Day Parade. Naugatuck honors veterans every day!
Ukraine needs air defense systems, ammunition, & financial aid. Russia needs bone-crushing sanctions. My Russia Sanctions bill with Senator Graham would impose scorching levies to isolate & break Putin’s economy.
Peace is possible only if Putin comes to the table, instead of playing Trump for time.
Trump says it’s not his war, but he may cause Ukraine to lose it. Refusing to provide the support it needs to resist Putin’s merciless slaughter, Trump emboldens & enables more. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/26/w...
Amazing turnout & warm crowds at Orange Memorial Day Parade, despite cool & cloudy weather. Thank you to all the organizers!
I was proud to stand with them on picket lines in East Hartford & Middletown, & I admire their perseverance & courage, as well as their extraordinary skill & loyalty.
All Americans should be grateful that Pratt machinists— among our most skilled, dedicated defense workers— are returning to their jobs. Their products are vital to our national security, & they deserve fair pay, good pensions, & job security.
Water safety matters. As summer swimming begins, this CDC money is minuscule—compared to the total federal budget—but the life saving impact could be significant. Cutting it seems dumb & cruel. www.politico.com/news/2025/05...
Unacceptably, they won’t answer our questions. We need accountability.
Top VA political appointees are in denial—dismissing & disregarding the real impacts of their draconian cuts in workforce & resources. More than morale, access to health care & benefits are increasingly threatened. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
As Memorial Day closes, Americans may better appreciate its meaning in this poem, a powerfully poignant remembrance by one of our nation’s decorated heroes. A stirring reminder of war’s cost. www.theatlantic.com/books/archiv...
Proud to stand with DVA Commissioner Ron Welch & veterans attending Memorial Day Ceremony at our State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. It has never looked more poignantly, powerfully beautiful.
A spectacular ceremony in Greenwich/Glenville after it parade, marking this special Memorial Day with a thank you to the fallen & all their loved ones— & all veterans too.
Monroe’s ceremony— following its spirited parade— was inspiring & impressive. The town’s patriotism is a great model.
