What’s happening at the CDC is chilling. RFK Jr. is driving out dedicated public health experts because they refuse to rubber-stamp his dangerous views on vaccines.
CDC WRAPUP: A White House spokesman emailed me at 9:30 p.m. to say that Susan Monarez, the CDC director, has been fired. This came after days of back-and-forth in which RFK Jr. tried to force her out and she refused. 4 other top CDC officials have quit. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/27/h...
These experts are our first line of defense against outbreaks and emerging threats. Their resignations make clear that they are no longer being allowed to do their jobs to protect the health and safety of the American people.

Janine and I are heartbroken and angered by today’s mass shooting in Minneapolis. Schools should be safe places where kids can learn and grow. Parents should never have to worry about whether their child will come home at the end of the day. abcnews.go.com/US/shooting-...
Reports that individuals held in ICE detention at the John Moss Federal Building in Sacramento are being denied safe sleeping space, adequate food and water, sanitation, and ventilation are deeply disturbing. I’m joining @dorismatsui.bsky.social and local leaders to demand answers.
Your family’s economic security and hard-earned retirement savings depend on a Federal Reserve that makes decisions guided by data — not politics. That’s what we’re fighting to defend.
Democrats and Republicans have long agreed: a strong economy requires a Federal Reserve free from political interference. When Donald Trump attacks the Fed’s independence, he risks spiking prices, rattling markets, and undermining confidence in our economy.
The Federal Reserve must remain independent. Moving to fire Lisa Cook is Trump’s latest attack on institutions designed to be immune from political pressure. This is reckless and carries enormous consequences for our economy.

I am deeply disturbed by reports of unsafe and inhumane conditions inside the Moss Federal Building in Sacramento. Allegations that people in ICE detention are being denied safe sleeping space, adequate food and water, sanitation, and ventilation demand immediate inspection.
I helped secure $1,050,000 in federal funding for this project to create stability and opportunity for local families. It is inspiring to see our community come together to support this effort!
Team Bera joined Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento for the wall raise on a new 26-home affordable housing community on Sayonara Drive in Citrus Heights.
But the Trump Administration has put that future in jeopardy by firing thousands of staff and even proposing privatizing Social Security. This is unacceptable.
