We're past the 11-hour mark, on the second day of the Ways and Means markup of Republicans' tax cut for the rich.
Dems offered amendments to protect your health care, stop Trump's trade war, and expand the Child Tax Credit.
Republicans voted them all down. We're fighting on.

8 hours into the Ways and Means markup of the Republican tax bill, Democrats led by @replindasanchez.bsky.social just offered an amendment to stop Trump's trade war and repeal his tariffs that are hurting our economy.
Every Republican voted to keep Trump's tariffs in place.
We're in the seventh hour of the Ways and Means markup of Republicans' tax cut for the rich.
Democrats led by @repstevenhorsford.bsky.social just offered an amendment to stop Republicans from stripping health coverage away from the American people.
Every Republican voted against it.
My opening in Ways and Means on Republicans' tax cut for the rich.
Republicans promised to lower prices, but Trump's trade war is raising them. And their bill attacks Americans' health care and energy.
They're breaking their promise, just to give billionaires more money.

We're coming up on 4 hours at @waysmeanscmte.bsky.social, where Democrats are fighting against a Republican tax bill that guts health care for nearly 14M Americans, raises energy costs, and balloons the deficit.
I’ll keep sharing updates throughout the hearing:
Three hours in, actually!
We just hit two hours in committee on Republicans’ tax cut for the rich.
@waysmeanscmte.bsky.social Dems are here to fight for the people.
The Republican side has been nearly empty much of the time. Most aren’t speaking.
It’s almost like they want this to end. Like they’re embarrassed.

Happy National Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
Military spouses sacrifice so much to support our country and we can do more in Congress to support them, including passing my Military Spouse Hiring Act to help them overcome hurdles to employment.

I recently introduced legislation to rehire federal workers who’ve dedicated their careers to serving the American people and to protect the federal workforce from future purges.
More on those here: beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
Thank you to our public servants who deliver critical services to the American people – keeping our food safe to eat, our water safe to drink, and our air safe to breathe.
I continue to fight for you against the Trump Administration’s reckless and illegal attacks.

The Trump Administration is sending multiple signals that they have something to hide in their conduct of these cases.
Congress should investigate to find out why.
I will have more to come on that subject soon. 4/4
This practice has likely been organized, coordinated, and directed by a central authority in the administration. If what the administration was doing here was above board, they would be transparent and honest about it; instead they have been secretive and defended the practice with outright lies. 3/
As Judge Giles noted, the Administration's actions in Dr. Khan Suri's case mirror those in the cases of Mahmoud Khalil and Rümeysa Öztürk.
Their tactic of rushing students and scholars to distant detention centers to seek more favorable rulings has now been rejected by multiple federal judges. 2/
Good news.
Dr. Badar Khan Suri is in Texas now because the Trump Administration whisked him there to get a more favorable judicial environment to further trample his rights and the Constitution.
Judge Giles wisely rejected the administration’s feeble lies and post hoc excuses for its actions. 1/

Virginia Rep. & former Lieutenant Gov Don Beyer presses ICE to release Georgtown scholar Badar Khan Suri.
"He has not been charged with a crime and has no prior criminal record…The circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention raise serious concerns about civil liberties and academic freedom."
American policy should be focused on promoting peace and stopping the killing in Gaza. Obviously, that is not what is happening right now. My statement:
Dr. Khan Suri should not be detained at all, and these harsh restrictions are completely unnecessary. I am pressing ICE to reevaluate his custody classification and consider his eligibility for release. 3/3

As a result, Dr. Khan Suri is only allowed two hours a week for recreation, and is not permitted to work or spend more time outside his cell. He was also denied religious accommodations, including Halal food, Ramadan fasting accommodations, a Quran, and a prayer mat. 2/
thehoya.com/news/trackin...
Dr. Badar Khan Suri is a legally admitted visiting scholar with no criminal record, is not charged with a crime, and the obscure immigration provision used against him doesn't mandate detention. Yet ICE is holding him in Texas and has designated him a high-risk custody detainee. 1/
