Judge Joun accurately determined that Trump and DOGE’s political purge of the Department of Education was unlawful and reaffirmed that the executive branch cannot unilaterally work toward abolishing a congressionally established agency without the approval of Congress. 2/

Judge Joun’s decision blocking Trump and DOGE's illegal efforts to gut the Department of Education and mandating the reinstatement of wrongfully terminated staff brings much-needed relief for millions of students, educators, and families across the country.
I am horrified by the act of terror that targeted the @ajcglobal.bsky.social event at the Capital Jewish Museum and claimed two innocent lives.
Our community mourns Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky. Antisemitism and political violence have no place in our society.
An attack on green jobs that will increase energy prices.
An attack on health care that will raise costs and threaten rural hospitals.
A massive explosion of trillions in debt.
House Republicans just sent it to the Senate.
We will fight on.
House Republicans just passed the biggest health care and Medicaid cut ever.
The biggest cut to SNAP and nutrition assistance ever.
A massive tax cut for billionaires with tax hikes for millions of working families.
The biggest wealth transfer from working people to rich people ever in one law.
This monstrous bill strips health care from 14 million Americans, cuts $300 billion in food and nutrition from working Americans, while giving a temporary head fake to those working on overtime and those working for tips. It actually raises taxes on the poorest 20% of Americans.
We knew Gerry as a pugnacious fighter for his constituents, for good government, and for a range of causes around the world. He was warm, witty, and loyal. Above all, Gerry was beloved by his family, friends, and staff. I send my condolences to them and especially to Smitty, Caitlin, their family.
Everyone who runs for office says they want ‘to get stuff done,’ but comparatively few actually succeed. Gerry got stuff done for years in Fairfax, then brought the same attitude and outlook to Congress.
He was especially proud to have been named the House’s ‘most effective legislator.’
Gerry Connolly was one of a kind, and I am heartbroken that he has passed.
He will leave a towering legacy of accomplishment in Fairfax County, he was a forceful advocate for our region and the people in it.
The biggest cut to health care cut ever. The biggest cut to SNAP. Tax hikes for working people.
The largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in U.S. history.
There’s a reason Republicans are only working on this bill in the dead of night.
The Trump Administration is trying to use baseless, nakedly political charges to intimidate Members of Congress out of doing lawful oversight because they have many abuses to hide. They will not succeed.
I stand with @replamonica.bsky.social, we have your back.
Others are still detained simply for exercising their First Amendment rights.
What's happening in these cases is an assault on basic freedoms, and we have to defend our values, and keep fighting this injustice until they are free.
Thrilled to welcome Dr. Badar Khan Suri back following his prolonged, unjust detention in Texas.
The Trump Administration persecuted him and others to spread fear on American campuses, tearing him away from his family in the process, until a judge halted it.
So glad he's home.
I will continue to support the United States Institute of Peace and the dedicated professionals who carry out its essential work.

It also threatened the independence of more than 232,000 other 501(c)(3) non-profits across the country, and undermined American diplomacy.
This decision restores the rule of law and protects the Institute’s ability to fulfill its mission. 5/
Trump and Musk’s brazen attempts to disregard these legal protections and dismantle this organization inflicted unnecessary trauma on the Institute’s committed leadership and employees. 4/
Congress established the Institute of Peace to advance a safer, more peaceful world.
In doing so, it defined the Institute as an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit and placed clear restrictions on presidential authority to remove Board members. 3/
The Court rightly concluded the Trump Administration and DOGE’s hostile takeover of the Institute was executed without legal authority and in direct violation of congressional statute.
A huge win for USIP, its dedicated staff, and the rule of law. 2/
HUGE: In federal court today, Judge Howell found that the Trump Administration and DOGE illegally removed USIP Board members, thereby nullifying ensuing actions including:
- replacement of Board members with DOGE officials,
- USIP staff purge, and
- transfer of USIP property to GSA.
60 years ago today, President Johnson created Head Start to give low-income children access to the tools they need to succeed!
