Trump’s chaos is clearly and significantly raising the risk of a recession, and the economic warning lights are all flashing red.
The economy just shrank in the first three months of Trump’s presidency, after years of growth and a strong previous quarter. 1/

Dr. Suri is not charged with a crime, the Administration is targeting him to instill fear on campuses and clamp down on free speech.
What that they've done to Dr. Suri is wrong, and he should be released. I will continue to speak up about his case as courts consider it in the days ahead. 2/2
I just met with legal counsel for my constituent, Dr. Badar Khan Suri.
Dr. Suri is a global conflict scholar at Georgetown who was detained without explanation by masked agents outside his Arlington home, then disappeared without due process to a prison 1,300 miles from his wife and children. 1/

When he was six years old, Leader Jeffries’ son Joshua explained that “debacle” means “something bad.”
On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social explains how the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s presidency have been a debacle for the American people.
The economy is shrinking, consumer confidence is plummeting, markets are down, inflation and recession risks are up, and Donald Trump is trying to find someone else to blame. Don't be fooled: Trump's chaos caused this.

100 days ago Trump declared “our golden age has just begun.” His inaugural speech began with the line “From this day forward, our country will flourish.”
This morning’s economic news is so bad that Trump is now trying to distance himself from the economy.
His tariffs did this.
President Trump’s first 100 days in office have been anti-climate, anti-environment, anti-science. It’s a disaster for the planet we call home.

This is the reality of this Administration’s first 100 days and the pain it’s inflicted upon our civil servants and the critical services Americans rely on:
Congratulations to Oak Street Elementary School’s own Miriam Schimmoller for being recognized as the Washington Post’s 2025 Teacher of the Year!
We’re so proud of you, and thankful for all you do to shape the minds of the future generation of leaders.

WASHINGTON (AP) - US Consumer confidence slides for the 5th straight month to levels not seen since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Congratulations to Prime Minister Carney, who I’m sure will continue to lead with grit and grace. Like the vast majority of Americans, I look forward to continued partnership, alliance and friendship with Canada, our neighbors who remain True North, Strong and Free.
I can't imagine the House without Gerry Connolly, and I'll miss our partnership immeasurably. He will leave an indelible mark on Fairfax County, our region, Virginia, and our country. Northern Virginia is a better place for Gerry's decision to enter public service. beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
Nothing says “Government Efficiency” like funneling giant contracts for likely boondoggles to companies owned by you and your friends.

I introduced the Half-Earth Resolution to honor my friend and famed scientist E.O. Wilson’s vision of protecting half the land and sea, and all the creatures that live there. We need to protect our special places for future generations of hikers, climbers, snorkelers, and bird lovers.
As my constituents continue to share their stories to help us understand the real-life consequences of the Trump Administration’s actions, I'm outraged by these cruel attacks on our federal workforce.
No one who wants to serve the American people should be treated this way.
This is great news. Unions are a cornerstone of the middle class and do so much to support our federal workers and protect them from the Trump Administration’s unlawful actions.

I am hosting a job fair to support federal workers and contractors on May 3 at George Washington Middle School in Alexandria. Come meet with companies from various sectors, including from health care, local government, military, finance, and more.

This goes beyond incompetence, it's dangerous and a threat to national security.
Republican Senators knew Hegseth would be a disaster and voted for him anyway. His tenure has been a predictable embarrassment. It should end yesterday.
