Seven years ago, President Donald Trump's TCJA provided massive tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% of Americans. Extending these tax cuts would add nearly $4 trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years, with hundreds of billions more in interest costs.   It would be a disaster.
Republicans would rather cut taxes for billionaire donors than fund research for children with cancer. That is why our country is on the brink of a government shutdown that will crash the economy, hurt working class Americans and likely be the longest in history. Welcome back to the MAGA swamp.
Another provision not getting much attention that Republicans cut from the funding bill at the direction of the wealthiest man in the world — the SUPPORT Act, bipartisan legislation key to fighting the opioid epidemic. thehill.com/policy/healt...
At Elon Musk's demand, Republicans changed the funding bill. Who wins in the new bill? Drug middle men, China, and cancer. And especially Elon Musk's business:
RE: the GOP bill- setting aside the debt limit, looking at what came out I doubt overall cost changed much. One big change: they removed rules to limit American investments in China- which would benefit Tesla and Elon. His endorsing suggests the true priority was not the former, but the latter.
For years I have urged my colleagues for years to permanently eliminate the debt ceiling, which has never reduced our national debt. I am a cosponsor of @repbrendanboyle.bsky.social’s bill to do it. Let’s abolish the debt limit for good.
The richest man in the world says he wants to shut down the government, forcing millions of American workers - including our troops - to go without pay through the holidays. Republicans are following his orders. This is insane.
The Constitution empowers Congress, not the president, to determine trade policy. Misusing tariffs can wreak havoc on our economy and raise costs for Americans. My opening remarks in today’s @jecdems.bsky.social hearing on president-elect Trump’s vow to implement massive tariff increases:
My office is aware of reports of a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are in touch with local law enforcement, and will continue to monitor the situation and offer any assistance we can provide to our first responders.
This morning I hosted a discussion with local leaders from Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax County, and Falls Church to coordinate efforts to help our communities and strategize about solving problems ahead.
CFPB has helped put billions of dollars back in the pockets of Americans harmed by predatory corporate practices. Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their billionaire allies want to get rid of it so they can keep cheating working Americans. www.cbsnews.com/news/cfpb-cr...
It has been 12 years since the lives of 20 children and six educators were taken by a gunman armed with an AR-15 rifle at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT. Their legacies live on in the enduring movement that has been built over the last 12 years to end our nation’s gun violence crisis.
Democrats secured lower health insurance premiums, and more than 20 million Americans benefitted from enhanced premium tax credits. Republicans want to allow these credits to expire, forcing millions to lose access to affordable health insurance. thehill.com/policy/healt...
Today we celebrate two years since President Biden signed the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act into law, protecting same-sex and interracial marriage. A huge milestone for equality, love, and civil rights!
