ICYMI: Joined Alex Witt on MSNBC this weekend to discuss our bill with @repdonbeyer.bsky.social which would require full FBI background checks for high-level White House officials. Watch the full interview here:
Project 2025 architect Russ Vought is one of Trump’s worst and most extreme nominees.
He argued for radical seizures of power by the president, with a goal of undoing Congress’ constitutional authority and the rule of law.
His plans to purge the federal workforce would be a disaster for Virginia.
NEW: Trump selects Russ Vought, architect of Project 2025, to lead White House budget office
Vought helped Trump craft plans to purge the Justice Department, deploy the military to quash civilian unrest, & massively expand presidential power over spending

I love maps! They tell important stories, and they can make us better communicators and policymakers. I joined the American Geographical Society to discuss how innovative maps can serve as a tool to help us understand climate and find common ground for collaboration.
"The Security Clearance Review Act — cosponsored by Reps. Don Beyer, D-Va., and Ted Lieu, D-Calif., would require the president to provide Congress with written justification for overruling an FBI clearance denial of executive office appointees."

Those advising the President must be trustworthy public servants. Joined @repdonbeyer.bsky.social to introduce a bill to uphold the security clearance process and prevent individuals with major security concerns from accessing sensitive intelligence materials.
It won't lower prices, or create jobs, but this awful discrimination will distract their supporters while Johnson and his fellow Republicans move to give piles of money to billionaires and large corporations and cut your health care.
Cruelty is the point but it is not the only point.

Hey Bluesky!
I’m Don Scott, a Navy vet, defense attorney, and Virginia’s first black Speaker of the House of Delegates, and I’m committed to fighting for you.
Trump abused the security clearance process to reward allies and family, even when national security staff and his own Chief of Staff warned against it. He's trying to do it again. I introduced the Security Clearance Review Act with @tedlieu.bsky.social to stop this.

This should not be a partisan issue – the Gaetz report must be released.
You don't get to hide potential wrongdoing while seeking a job as the top law enforcement officer in the United States. That is not a thing.
Release the Gaetz report.
The people of Delaware elected Sarah McBride, and she is just as welcome here as anyone else.
Communities hit by Hurricanes Helene and Milton are still picking up the pieces and they need our help. Congress must step up and deliver comprehensive disaster relief to help these communities rebuild. It's the right thing to do.

Seven years ago, Bijan Ghaisar was fatally shot by U.S. Park Police. He was 25, and unarmed. His family - Kelly, James, Negeen, and Kouros - continue to fight for justice and accountability, and I stand with them. We won't forget Bijan.
Handling matters critical to our national welfare and national security demands vetted, conflict-free leaders. Skipping this process isn’t just reckless, it’s dangerous.
It begs the question: what are they trying to hide?

The House Ethics Committee completed an investigation into Trump’s nominee to run the Justice Department — an investigation that reportedly looked at criminal behavior including sex with a minor — and Mike Johnson wants to hide the report from the country.
A *massive* red flag.
It’s long been a goal of mine to hike the entirety of the Appalachian Trail and I’ve finally achieved this herculean challenge! 2,194 miles through 14 states, breathtaking views, unforgettable moments, and a certificate from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy made every step worth it.
Kennedy has dangerous crackpot views on vaccines, HIV, and many other topics. He has stated in a court filing that he is cognitively impaired due to a worm in his brain. He should be nowhere near health policy or managing Medicaid.
So. It’s RFK Jr.
There is no precedent for this in public health — someone who has spent years questioning the safety of vaccines now potentially overseeing the federal agency charged with vaccine safety.

Replacing our federal workforce with Trump loyalists would be disastrous for our economy, anyone who believes the government should work well, and for those who lose their jobs. I will work tirelessly to protect our civil service from Trump's attacks.
