Lisa Quandt, a special education teacher from Belleville, is one of millions of educators across the country who are in fear of Trump shuttering the Department of Education. This morning, she spoke about how her students will be impacted.

This week, we introduced the #PROAct! This bipartisan bill protects the right of all workers to join a union and bargain collectively for higher wages, better benefits and safer working conditions. As a member of the Labor Caucus, I will never stop fighting for workers in Congress.
My constituent shared how Medicaid is a lifeline for her family to meet their daughter's medical needs. Cuts to this program would be devastating for so many in our community.
60 years ago, hundreds of demonstrators were attacked on the Edmund Pettus Bridge as they marched for the right to vote. I'm proud to honor their legacy by joining my colleagues in introducing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to safeguard equal access to the ballot box.
The Trump Administration is trying to privatize the critical public services that Americans rely on. We won’t stand for it.
No one should have to travel hours just to visit the doctor, and telemedicine is a great way to reduce the barriers to care so often faced by rural communities. I’m proud to introduce the bipartisan Rural Wellness Act to expand access to this tech, especially for mental and behavioral health care.
Firing 83,000 VA employees is an outright betrayal of America’s veterans. Such extreme cuts will likely grind the VA to a halt and millions of veterans will be denied access to the care and benefits they deserve. www.govexec.com/workforce/20...
Tyffany is a single parent in #IL13 who was laid off from her job at USDA because of Elon Musk’s purge of federal employees. Here’s her story:
Folks in Central and Southern Illinois are already getting their mail days or even ~weeks~ late. I’m leading the charge against plans to privatize the Postal Service and ensure that any changes to USPS aren’t made on the backs of our rural communities.
As a union member, I know how important it is to protect the right to organize. I'm joining my colleagues to introduce the #PROAct which:
✊Protects workers’ basic rights to form & join a union
📢 Holds employers accountable for violating workers’ rights
📮Secures free, fair, & safe union elections
I joined Rep. John Larson and more than 150 Democrats in defending Social Security. We won’t let Trump and Elon Musk gut Social Security and take away these hard earned benefits from nearly 70 million Americans. larson.house.gov/media-center...

Tonight, I hope to hear from President Trump on how he plans to lower costs for families. Since he took office on January 20, prices have only gone up. He needs to focus on making life easier for working families – not harder.
As a special education teacher from Belleville, Lisa Quandt is the perfect person to highlight how Trump’s attacks on the Department of Education are hurting working families. I’m honored to bring her as my guest to the president’s Joint Address to Congress.
Tonight, Lisa Quandt – a special education teacher from Belleville – will be in the audience as President Trump delivers a joint address to Congress. Lisa knows firsthand how much her students will suffer if Trump follows through on his plan to slash funding for special education programs.
7.5 million students with disabilities will lose access to special education services funded by the federal government if Trump guts the U.S. Department of Education. I’m proud to stand with @aftunion.bsky.social on the side of protecting our students, educators and public schools! #ProtectOurKids
Donald Trump's reckless approach to tariffs will not protect American jobs – it will hurt American farmers. China and Canada are major importers of U.S. agricultural products and this trade war unleashed by the president is a disaster for Illinois growers and producers. www.npr.org/2025/03/03/n...
I joined NPR Illinois’ Morning Edition to talk about my expectations for President Trump’s speech tonight. ⬇️
