But just months ago, the administration said Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been neutralized. Now we’re being told new strikes were necessary. Those two things don’t add up, and the American people deserve straight answers.

I’ve always taken seriously the threat Iran poses to our security and that of our allies. That concern remains today. We cannot allow Iran to become a nuclear power, for the long-term security of the United States and our allies.
That’s why I voted to reassert Congress’s authority and make it clear — no more military action in Iran.
This week, I received a classified briefing on the recent strikes in Iran. It did not give me confidence that this administration has a clear justification for putting the lives of men and women in uniform at risk.
I will continue to call for accountability at every level and stand up for the safety of our immigrant communities in Central and Southern Illinois.
I was one of the first members of Congress to sign onto articles of impeachment against Kristi Noem. While I am glad she has been fired, that does not change the fact that we must see a complete overhaul of DHS to ensure the agency ends its cruel and dangerous enforcement tactics.

My heart breaks for the loved ones of the four American service members who were killed by an Iranian strike on Kuwait over the weekend. This is an unimaginable loss. The administration has done nothing to demonstrate the rationale for this war & left unchecked we will continue to see loss of life.
This week, the House Ag Committee will be marking up the Farm Bill. During this marathon session, I’m going to be fighting to support new and beginning farmers, strengthen conservation programs, and invest in our rural communities.

Happy Women’s History Month! Throughout March, we honor generations of trailblazing women who defied the odds, broke glass ceilings and showed us that anything is possible. Their leadership and perseverance have made our country stronger.
I want the people of Illinois’ 13th District to know that when the House votes on a War Powers Resolution, I will support it. In the meantime, my thoughts are with the safety and well-being of our service members and all those in the region.
Iran’s human rights abuses and its anti-democratic regime cannot be ignored. But we can, and must, pursue diplomacy to address these challenges, not another costly and deadly conflict.
Now, he is moving our nation toward war without providing Congress or the American people the justification we rightfully deserve.
It goes without saying that preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power is critically important. We had an agreement designed to achieve that goal — an agreement the President chose to abandon.
But the same cannot be said for President Trump. Once again, he has disregarded the principle of coequal branches of government. And now, the consequences could be profound and dangerous.
The Constitution is clear: only Congress has the power to send our nation to war. This is a grave responsibility — one we take with the utmost seriousness. 🧵
