This happens in places like Turkey, Venezuela or Russia – not the United States. Wherever a wannabe authoritarian seizes control of the central bank, the nation rapidly faces stunted economic growth and runaway inflation.
The president does not have the authority to fire Dr. Cook from the Federal Reserve, period. This unconstitutional effort to install a loyalist at America’s central bank undermines the rule of law and threatens the stability of our financial system. It cannot be allowed to move forward.
Breaking news: President Donald Trump moved to oust Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook over unproven allegations that she committed mortgage fraud, ratcheting up his push to bend the independent central bank to his will.
Rather than working with Democrats to expand clean energy and lower energy costs for families, the president and Republicans in Congress gutted investments in renewables with their Big Ugly Bill. It’s driving up utility bills for Missouri families. www.kansascity.com/news/politic...
As the president sends American troops into American cities based on concocted “crises”, his administration is also purging senior military leadership and installing loyalists. It undermines our civil liberties and weakens our national security. taskandpurpose.com/news/navy-fi...
“CFO Richard McPhail said Home Depot would have to implement some price increases as a result of the Trump administration’s taxes on imports.” The president’s tariff taxes continue to drive up prices, hurting American families nationwide. www.cnn.com/2025/08/19/e...
The barbarity of the president’s extreme mass deportation policies will leave a stain that lasts for generations. It was never about removing violent criminals. It’s about harassing immigrant communities, as this mother and legal resident can attest. www.masslive.com/news/2025/08...
The DOJ is not Trump’s personal police force and does not exist to settle his personal grudges – it exists to serve the American people and uphold the rule of law that keeps our democracy safe.
Trump on FBI raiding Bolton's house: "I could know about it. I could be the one starting it. I'm actually the chief law enforcement officer."
This is the Trump playbook: rig the numbers so working families and seniors get shortchanged while the wealthy get ahead. Manipulating economic stats isn’t just cooking the books, it’s stealing benefits Americans have earned.
Corrupting economic statistics will change our economic reality. Here's how: Tariffs raise prices. Social Security is indexed to inflation. If Trump tells a partisan BLS head to downplay inflation, seniors' social security checks won't keep up. Rigged stats = stolen benefits.
Met with #MO05 hospital leaders who are deeply concerned about looming Medicare premium hikes. If the enhanced tax credits expire – undermined by the GOP’s #BigUGLYLaw – nearly 338,000 Missourians and 24 million Americans will pay the price. Families can’t afford this.
Trump’s Big Lie didn’t just attack the truth, it threatened the people who make our elections run. Election officials face harassment and burnout. Without them, the security of every future election and democracy is at risk. www.npr.org/2025/08/20/n...
The Smithsonian is not “out of control” – it’s doing its job: telling the whole story, warts and all. But Trump’s agenda to scrub away slavery and painful truths is a political attack on history itself. We won’t let him rewrite it to serve his politics.
President Trump said the Smithsonian Institution focused too much on “how bad Slavery was.” Scholars say the administration’s attack on the Smithsonian underscores the stakes of the institution’s role in civic engagement and democracy.
This Cost of Living Week of Action, we’re calling it like it is. This is the Trump-Republican business model: make the rich richer on the backs of working families. Prices are up and families are feeling the financial squeeze.
In a time of global challenges, people-to-people exchange is more important than ever and it was an honor to hear about the important work they’re doing right here in #MO05
