With the esteemed pastor, Frank Ray of New Salem Baptist Church in Memphis. Celebrating 54 years of service to his congregation and community. It was a beautiful service for a legendary Pastor. Congratulations Pastor Ray.
They say a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich. Trump & Bondi's DOJ can’t even do that. They tried to go after Letitia James, they tried James Comey, they tried to take down 6 Members of Congress over an ad—strike out, strike out, strike out. These are revenge fishing expeditions—not real cases.
Jesse Jackson was a man in the arena—a towering civil rights and human rights leader, a splendid orator and a courageous voice for justice. Sending my deepest condolences to his family, especially Jesse Jr. & Jonathan, and all who loved him. Jesse Jackson made a difference. He’ll be missed dearly.
The latest time I talked with the Rev. Jesse Jackson during DNC convention Chicago. Nothing not even being confined to that wheelchair could stop him for participating in the affairs of his nation. He was a phenomenal splendid order and a courageous man. Condolences to his family. A life well lived
In February '96 the Tennessee Senate passed a resolution 27-1 to urge the posting of the 10 Commandments in schools, businesses and homes. I was the one dissenting vote and said,"Moses gave the 10 Commandments to the people he didn't need the Tennessee general assembly's help." Time and Newsweek
Trump posted a racist depiction of our first Black President and First Lady. It wasn’t an accident or “fake outrage”—it was racist, vile, and it disgraced our country. I introduced a resolution to censure and condemn Trump and demand he apologize to President Obama, Michelle Obama, and the country.
Trump and the GOP know how unpopular they've become—so they’re trying to keep people from voting. That’s what the SAVE Act is. It forces Americans to dig up passports or birth certificates just to register—something they know millions of Americans don't have. But that's the point. I voted HELL NO.
ICE killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti—and the DOJ went after the victims instead of the agents who pulled the trigger. I confronted AG Bondi today. This was an execution, and she's running cover for it. It's exactly why I wrote the Deadly Force Independent Review Act—to end the coverups.
The GOP cut SNAP & food assistance. They kicked people off Medicaid. They cut ACA tax credits for millions. Then used that money to give BILLIONS to donors, corporations, the Mar-a-Lago class—and to turn ICE into Trump's bloated and poorly trained revolutionary guard. We are going to ABOLISH ICE.
Gov. Lee rejected Summer EBT funding for kids in Memphis and TN-9, but I won't stop fighting for it. I’ve always voted to fund Summer EBT because kids still need to eat when school's out. The money is there, but Gov. Lee refused it—AGAIN. This is wrong. I’m fighting in Congress to change course.
Trump hasn’t just abused the pardon power—he’s commercialized it: a get-out-of-jail card for the wealthy and well-connected. I introduced a Constitutional amendment in 2017 to put limits on presidential pardons and stop these abuses, and I’ve reintroduced ever since then. Presidents aren’t kings.
ICE is killing, lying, and covering for itself. We must abolish ICE—and we need to make sure that no federal officer can ever kill and hide behind a would-be badge, a mask, or a lawless President and DHS Secretary ever again. That's why I introduced the Deadly Force Independent Review Act.
Deleting it means he knew exactly how vile it was. He doesn’t regret it — he regrets getting called out on it. Racism followed by cowardice. Disgusting is too light a condemnation. When will he ever exhibit grace and humility?
Last night, Trump posted a video to his social media platform that contained a racist clip showing Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. It's still up:
A racist screenshot of Michelle and Barack Obama
If you protest ICE, they’ll use lethal force against you. But if you defraud workers, patients, and taxpayers out of hundreds of millions—and donate to the GOP—Trump will just hand you a pardon. No restitution. No consequences. Victims get nothing. Do you think YOU would get a pardon for fraud?
