Donald Trump's federal funding freeze is STILL directly impacting the Central Coast. In just #CA24 alone, we're tracking more than $22 million currently frozen—the majority of which is from programs funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law or Inflation Reduction Act.
Today is National 211 Day! A big thanks to CommUnify Santa Barbara for hosting a fantastic 211 Community Day this past weekend. It was a great opportunity to connect with local organizations and share valuable resources for everyone in Santa Barbara County!
Thank you to everyone who joined me this weekend at the emergency town hall! I know we’re facing difficult times, but it was great to share an update on what I’m doing to fight back against policies that are hurting the Central Coast.
On top of harmful executive actions, some of President Trump's new policies are just plain ~creepy~. A new DOT memo says that grants should be allocated to areas with "high marriage and birth rates". I asked a panel of maritime witnesses about it. Watch their telling silence⬇️
The coup at USAID was only the start — we know that public education, health care, and other vital funding are next on their list. Don't just take my word for it, they're admitting it. ⬇️
Met with advocates for the Central Coast's transgender community to discuss the new administration's attacks on LGBTQI+ individuals and the ways we can fight back. I'll always fight to ensure the Central Coast remains a safe and inclusive place for all—regardless of who is in the White House.
🌟 Congratulations to Mary Verdin, a devoted leader in SLO, on being named the 2024 Citizen of the Year at the SLO Chamber Annual Dinner — thank you for your dedication to our community, Mary!
I'm joining @housedemocrats.bsky.social to introduce the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, which will block unelected billionaires and right-wing activists from accessing private data of everyday Americans.
President Trump’s firing of Coast Guard Commandant, Admiral Linda Fagan, was unprecedented, misguided, and clearly political. This week, I led @transportdems.bsky.social to call out this unjust firing and keep the Trump Administration from hamstringing the USCG and jeopardizing maritime safety.
Donald Trump spent his week scrubbing contraception prescription information off the CDC website—200 @housedemocrats.bsky.social & I spent ours reintroducing the Right to Contraception Act. Proud to stand with the Reproductive Freedom Caucus & your right to the birth control method of your choice.
I'm demanding answers from the Treasury Department: ➡️ What access does DOGE have? ➡️ What authority are they using to justify that access? ➡️ What data is at risk? I joined Rep. Sean Casten and 150+ other @housedemocrats.bsky.social to demand this accountability.
The Trump Admin just confirmed that their billionaire donors have access to Americans' personal data. Not on my watch. @housedemocrats.bsky.social and I are fighting DOGE's attacks on privacy & vital programs through investigations, legislation, and upholding Congress' power of the purse.
