Trump just released his budget, and he wants to cut $18 billion from NIH, $3.5 billion from CDC, and $2.5 billion from EPA’s clean drinking water program. This proposed budget is terrible for the American people, and I will fight it every step of the way.
76K Denverites could lose Medicaid coverage due to the GOP adding bureaucratic red tape. Spoiler alert: kicking Americans off their coverage & making them sicker won't boost employment. For their constituents and ours, the GOP should be working with Democrats to protect and expand health coverage.
It's been 100 days of chaos from Donald Trump & his Admin – from gutting biomedical research, to carrying out illegal deportations, to tanking our economy. But that’s not the whole story. Democrats, the courts, and the American people are standing up, speaking out, and fighting back every day.
Donald Trump promised to secure our border and make our country safer. Instead, he has launched an illegal and unconstitutional campaign of fear that targets families, violates due process, and undermines our Constitution. My full statement. ⬇️
The House GOP is letting Elon and his teenage army run free with sensitive health information while they try to gut Medicaid. I'm fighting to hold them accountable for this gross abdication of responsibility.
Every Republican on the Energy & Commerce Committee just voted AGAINST my amendment that would have removed Elon Musk and his DOGE cronies' access to seniors' medical records.
Great to celebrate the 2025 Congressional Art Competition! 🎨 This year, we received 90 submissions from 72 students across 11 schools in Denver, showcasing the talent & creativity of young artists in our community. Thanks to all who participated, Art Street, & the Denver Art Society for hosting!
Rather than increasing efficiency, RFK Jr. and his lackeys are just layering on bureaucratic red tape and inserting politics into science. He’s making it harder for lifesaving research into diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s to continue.
I strongly support the NIH workers calling on Republican senators to restore Congress’s longtime bipartisan support for researching cancer, dementia, and other diseases. This should not be a partisan issue. All of us must stand on the side of science, cures, and treatments.
"Dear @senmullin.bsky.social, Capito, Cassidy, Collins, Cornyn..[and 6 others]" "These hastily-executed NIH contract cuts will damage medical research for diseases like cancer&dementia..." "It would be taking the side of cancer to do nothing to stop [the cuts]" Letter sent to R Senators:
To: The Republican Senate caucus, including Senators Mullin, Capito, Cassidy, Collins, Cornyn, Blackburn, Tillis, Lankford, Tim Scott, Rick Scott, and Sullivan (see quotes below)
Dear Senators:
Earlier this month, the Trump administration confirmed ordering NIH and HHS to eliminate 35% of all contracts', amounting to a $2.6 billion cut to NIH?. We write to inform you that these cuts will damage vital clinical care and medical research, conducted at NIH and funded by NIH at centers across the country. Despite what the Trump administration's political employees claim, there is no way to implement these cuts without damaging the NIH mission to understand biology and to understand, prevent, and treat disease and improve human health.
All Americans are touched by diseases like stroke, cancer, and Alzheimer's that NIH works to prevent and cure. NIH has been a worldwide beacon and powerful leader in this research. Currently, this work is under attack from the Trump administration, notably but
#EarthDay is a reminder of the importance of protecting our planet and keeping it healthy for future generations. I will always fight for conservation & protecting Colorado’s beautiful public lands, even as this administration & Republicans in Congress put oil and gas interests before our planet.
I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Pope Francis. Pope Francis led the Catholic Church with humility, empathy, and determination to make the church more welcoming. He was a truly modern pope, and his papacy will be remembered for his love and faith. May he rest in peace.
It's been 26 years since 14 people were killed at Columbine HS, yet high-capacity magazines continue tearing families & communities apart. No more “thoughts and prayers.” We need to pass commonsense gun safety measures now. (1/2)
Last week, House Republicans greenlit gutting vital programs like Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. That's over 150k Denverites who could lose this lifeline. As the top Democrat on the Health Subcommittee, I will fight with every fiber of my being to stop their extreme & cruel agenda.
Due process is a cornerstone of our democracy. Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s deportation is part of a troubling pattern of civil rights violations and disregard for the Constitution by the Trump administration. It’s time to stop these unlawful abductions and make Trump and his cronies follow the law.
"Eliminating such a large portion of the HHS workforce will put the lives of millions of Americans at risk as lifesaving cures and treatments are pushed further into the future & public health takes a back seat to personal grievance & paranoia." See my op-ed with Fred Upton on @washingtonpost.com ↓
