For years, the federal government has amassed more & more power to spy on Americans, with little oversight to prevent abuses of power & harassment of law-abiding citizens. I voted against reauthorizing these FISA powers without reforms—we can’t trust Trump's loyalists with our privacy.
Today’s decision will drastically harm voting rights. We must guarantee citizens’ participation and representation in our democracy & protect the sacred right to vote which has made this nation great. Failure risks the end of American democracy.
Most American families are living paycheck to paycheck. Instead of focusing on putting more money in people’s pockets, Trump has raised prices: he’s dragged us into an illegal war, pushed tariffs on consumers, and cut taxes for billionaires. For working Americans? Nothing.
We won’t balance the budget on the backs of those who feed America. Republicans’ latest Agriculture & FDA funding bill shows us they refuse to focus on lowering the cost of living for farmers and rural communities. @democrats-appropriations.house.gov push back: youtu.be/YJyc42XOJkA
I joined Gillian, a New Haven teacher, to talk about the importance of the SOAR Act, my bill that expands income-driven repayment plans after Trump’s elimination of the SAVE plan & repayment options. This protects student loan borrowers & provides a clearer path to debt relief.
President Trump promised $3 gas. His reckless war in Iran has made prices reach their highest level in four years. Americans cannot afford this. End this war now, bring our troops home, and let's focus on bringing down costs for Americans.
Gasoline prices in the U.S. rose on Tuesday to their highest level in four years as Iran war peace talks appeared at an impasse. At $4.18 for a gallon of regular gasoline, the price at the pump has not been this high since shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine. nyti.ms/4cP0u6y
A chart shows the price of gas in the U.S. at $4.18 per gallon, the highest in four years. A headline reads: U.S. Gas Prices Hit Highest Level Since Beginning of War in Iran
All Americans suffer when we abandon our allies and let Russia & China call the shots. By slashing investments in our soft power, Republicans are guaranteeing a more dangerous world for everyone. Watch me fight against this dangerous bill: youtu.be/6j8mFWBKe7k
President Trump promised this would be privately funded. What changed? While Americans struggle with high gas and grocery prices, President Trump and Republicans also want them to foot the bill for a gilded ballroom.
Lindsey Graham says they are going introduce legislation that’s going to authorize 400 million dollars to be spent on building the ballroom: We pay for it by offsetting it with customs fees. The sooner we get the ballroom built, the better it is for the country.
📢Join my staff on Tuesday, May 26 at the Hamden Miller Memorial Library for our Passport Day & Community Resource Fair. Don't miss this opportunity to renew or apply for your U.S. Passport (by appointment) & learn about local resources. We look forward to seeing you there!
3 million Americans have lost access to food stamps since Republicans passed the largest SNAP cut in history. Instead of ending hunger, the GOP's proposed Farm Bill abandons vulnerable children & families. We have the means to eradicate hunger. Republicans don’t have the will.
I'm pleased that @yalestresscenter.bsky.social in CT-03 will receive up to $3.497 million in funding to provide data from their research using a naturally occurring hormone for to treat alcoholism. They will be a part of a research team to help accelerate treatments for mental health & addiction.
On April 24, we remember the 1.5 million Armenians lost to the Armenian Genocide—and reaffirm our commitment to truth, justice, and prevention.
I visited Ansonia Library to celebrate National Library Week. Libraries & their staff & supporters transform lives & bring vibrancy to our neighborhoods – providing a space for reading, learning, & community. Thanks to Jen & her team for all they do, especially for children!
While families face a cost of living crisis, this administration wants a blank check for an illegal war. We need to finish this and bring our servicemembers home.
Trump says don’t rush him on finishing the war in Iran. A war that leaves our military personnel in peril and that we cannot afford. Congress hasn’t been given a cost estimate. We don’t know what we’re spending or for how long we will need to.
Not only is Live Nation/Ticketmaster an illegal monopoly, an ITEP report found they pay ZERO federal income taxes. They price gouge fans, rake in billions, and contribute nothing back. Break it up.
Trump's proposed budget slashing $6 billion in NIH funds won't just gut live-saving biomedical research. These cuts could also result in a loss of 50,000 jobs & $11.58 billion in economic activity nationwide. As leader of @democrats-appropriations.house.gov, I won't let that happen.
The new Joint Economic Committee Democrat's report confirms what we already knew: Trump's war in Iran is making costs unbearable for everyday Americans. CT families have already paid $170 million more for gas since the war began—and all U.S. households have spent a staggering $16 billion.
