For the past 45 years, Hesed House has been providing emergency shelter and essential services for those experiencing homelessness in the Aurora area. It was a pleasure to visit and learn more about their dedicated team and the volunteer army that helps thousands each year.
It is already illegal and incredibly uncommon for noncitizens to vote in our elections, so why are Republicans still pushing the SAVE America Act? Because they have a historically unpopular president, and the only way they think they can win is by suppressing the vote.
I visited Chestnut Health Systems in Bloomington to discuss their work to expand access to oral health care. Across rural and urban Illinois, more than 2 million people live in dental shortage areas. Medicaid cuts will make it worse. I salute Chestnut for their quality services.
I just visited Comprehensive Community Solutions in Rockford to see how they're helping young people build brighter futures through education, job training, mentorship, and housing support. Programs like YouthBuild, ALPHA, and TANYA’s House are opening doors and changing lives.
The Rockford CEJA Workforce Development Hub is doing critical work in training Illinoisans to build out clean energy projects across Illinois, propelling us toward a greener future.
While I am relieved that the Court rightly decided that birthright citizenship is the law of the land, I would be naive to believe that this will stop Trump’s attacks.
President Trump’s illegal birthright citizenship order was not just an attack on our Constitution—it was an attack on millions of Americans who have immigrant heritage.
I joined SEIU Healthcare in Chicago to discuss how struggling Americans need a President that is focused on improving affordability, not one starting unnecessary and costly wars.
President Trump promised, again and again, that he would lower costs for Americans ‘on day one.’ In reality, the President’s chaotic policies have cost Illinoisans more than $3,400 according to the Joint Economic Committee.
Lifelong Access Center has been supporting children and adults with disabilities and/or mental health needs throughout the Bloomington-Normal region for decades. I learned more today about their ambitious plan for a new all-inclusive youth health care and community support hub.
President Trump’s politically motivated criminal investigation of Lisa Cook, without cause, is all about his abuse of power and intimidation tactics. Due to his failed economic policies, the President continues to attack the integrity and independence of the Federal Reserve.
The Supreme Court just overturned well-established precedent to greenlight Donald Trump’s threats to independent federal agencies. Now, this President can fire whomever he perceives as his enemy at these agencies without so much as citing cause.
I was honored to receive Heartland Alliance’s Marjorie Kovler Center’s Dr. Robert H. Kirschner Award for Global Activism. I have been proud to advocate for human rights, both at home and abroad and am grateful for the Kovler Center’s partnership in the fight for human dignity.
I attended UCAN’s Gun Violence Awareness Month Peace Walk and Resource Fair today in Chicago’s Roseland community. I am grateful to UCAN and their partners that dedicate time, energy, and resources towards raising awareness and securing a safer future for our children.
We had a bipartisan measure ready to go that would lower the outrageous cost of housing, but President Trump refused to sign it because he cares more about passing his voter suppression bill.
They’re not even trying to hide their goal. President Trump wants to deny eligible Americans the right to vote and participate in our democracy so that Republicans can cling to power.
