Happy Valentine’s Day to my Valentine.
Huge news: Our FEND Off Fentanyl Act passed the Senate early this morning!
This legislation will help cut off the illicit supply of fentanyl that is coming into our communities from China and Mexico. Now it’s up to the House to pass this into law.
My statement on the Senate's passage of the National Security Supplemental:
I had great visits with Los Alamos Councilors Ryti and Derkacs, San Juan County Commissioners Fortner, Beckstead, and Lanier, and Sandoval County Commissioners Bruch and Jones. (Sandoval County not pictured, unfortunately.)
My thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues of Las Cruces Police Officer Jonah Hernandez who lost his life yesterday in the line of duty. We will not forget his sacrifice in service to his community.
Senate Democrats voted to improve border security. Senate Republicans blocked it. Because Republicans don’t actually want border security; they want to help Trump. My op-ed in USA Today this morning:

There’s a great new tool to help families electrify their homes, to make them healthier and rein in utility costs. More at the link.

The housing shortage is impacting nearly everyone in every community. We welcomed a historic investment from the Biden Administration to support those experiencing homelessness, one important piece of tackling this larger issue.

I applaud President Biden for taking this necessary step to hold recipients of U.S. weapons accountable to international law and ensure transparency for Americans, and I was pleased to be a part of Senator Van Hollen’s effort to get this done.

John Podesta was a major player in helping us designate the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument and steering SunZia to final approval. I look forward to continuing to work with John in his new role as our Climate Envoy.

It was great meeting with Zuni Pueblo Governor Kucate and his team this week. The Pueblo is doing solid work to tackle the housing shortage for their Tribal members, and I’m honored to support it.
Congratulations to Gabriella Durán Blakey. I’m looking forward to continuing our work together to deliver for New Mexico kids.

Whenever federal highway dollars are being spent, we need to be thinking about the whole community. Not just cars and trucks, but also kids walking to school and folks out on an evening bike ride. Our Complete Streets Act is a part of how we get that done.

I was proud to pass legislation that gave National Heritage Areas the stability they deserve. I was able to celebrate that win yesterday with SF Commissioner Anna Hansen, Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richards, NRGNHA Executive Director Eric Vasquez, & the Alliance of National Heritage Areas.
New Mexicans write me every day about how important the Affordable Connectivity Program is to their daily lives. Today, the FCC was forced to stop accepting new applications for this essential program due to Republican inaction.
My statement on our upcoming vote to improve border security and provide much-needed aid abroad.
Republicans are choosing chaos at our border rather than embracing a solution that they negotiated. Why? Simple: Trump wants chaos because he thinks it will get him elected. Despicable.

Expanding the Child Tax Credit permanently would help 140,000 kids in New Mexico, in the first year alone. That’s 140,000 reasons to get this done.
My bipartisan Good Samaritan bill will allow Good Samaritans to help clean up abandoned mines that are threatening our communities. We had strong bipartisan support of the bill in committee. Next, it’s time for the Senate floor.

I’m proud to welcome New Mexico’s $16.5M piece of the largest federal investment in American history to provide the support and housing that those experiencing homelessness need to get back on their feet.
