Today we learned of more DOGE firings at NOAA. Last week, my coastal communities told me they feared this day would come. Our coastal, rural, and wildfire impacted communities are less safe today because of these cuts. They need to be reversed, especially so close to wildfire season.
These are EARNED benefits. You've paid into Social Security since your first paycheck and will continue to do so until your last. Keeping the promise isn't hard, it just requires my colleagues in Congress to actually stand with working people over corporations and their billionaire buddies.
Without increasing taxes, by even a single CENT, on 91% of Americans, we can INCREASE benefits by $2,400 and EXTEND the life of the program by 75 years. How do we do it? Make those earning over $250,000 pay their fair share.
Republicans keep telling us that we have no choice but to END Social Security. But then again, they would say that, because they refuse to raise taxes on their billionaire donors. Today @sanders.senate.gov, @warren.senate.gov, and @schakowsky.house.gov and I are offering another way forward ⬇️
The House Republican budget bill takes healthcare away from millions of Americans, takes food away from hungry people and stops critical investment in our infrastructure; all to give tax breaks to their billionaire buddies.  This bill does NOTHING to help the working people I represent. I’m a NO.
As I met with constituents on the Coast, news of possible cuts to NOAA were top of mind. From ocean conditions, to wildfire prevention, to weather forecasts, all of our lives here on Oregon's South Coast would be impacted if NOAA were to go down. These are the costs of the admin's haphazard cuts.
"The problem of case backlogs at the NLRB goes deeper than budget shortfalls. Without serious penalties for employers who break the law, the board will continue to be hampered by a pileup of charges." - @mattbruenig.bsky.social via @jacobinmagazin.bsky.social jacobin.com/2025/02/nlrb...
DOGE is hurting working people, plain and simple. Federal workers are members of our communities who work hard for this country, but right now they are in fear for their jobs. It’s not right. These are some of their stories.
On Japanese Internment Remembrance Day, we remember Oregon’s own Minoru Yasui. Yasui was a Japanese American that fought back against racist laws that targeted Japanese Americans. His legacy is a reminder that civil disobedience in the face of unjust laws is a form of love for your country.
Supporting our veterans was once a bipartisan priority, but today, my colleagues in the Majority are completely silent as Elon Musk and the White House continue to dismantle the very agency our veterans rely on for care: the VA.
Elon Musk and the White House are gutting an already understaffed Forest Service, right as fire season approaches. To those of us who live in wildfire affected communities, these cuts are devastating. I am committed to doing all I can to advocate for these crucial resources.
Parasite [n.]: an organism that lives in or on an organism and benefits by deriving nutrients at the other's expense. ie: Elon Musk gets about $20 billion of taxpayer dollars funneled to his companies, yearly. Money that could fund schools, law enforcement, or Social Security. #ParasiteClass
This is disgusting, especially for someone who has been given so much power over government programs.
