Pramila Jayapal

Pramila Jayapal is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative from Washington's 7th congressional district since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she represents most of Seattle, as well as some suburban areas of King County. Jayapal represented the 37th legislative district in the Washington State Senate from 2015 to 2017. She is the first Indian American woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district's first female member of Congress, she is also the first Asian American to represent Washington at the federal level.

Americans are rationing insulin, going to bed hungry, and can’t afford rent or child care. So what did we do this morning in the House to help people? Absolutely nothing. Republicans wasted precious time in Congress to rename Gulf of Mexico. I voted NO.
Under Trump, the U.S. economy has shrunk for the first time in years. He’s not lowering costs, he’s not tackling inflation. He’s just slashing critical programs like Medicaid so Republicans can pass a $7 trillion tax cut for billionaires.
Every dollar invested in programs that benefit children, like Head Start, yields $10 in societal returns. That’s a 1,000% return on investment. But now Republicans want to cut these programs — all so billionaires can pay less in taxes.
May is Jewish American Heritage Month! This month we honor Jewish history and celebrate Jewish voices and contributions. As antisemitism continues to affect our communities, we must commit ourselves to rooting out all forms of hate and standing with our Jewish neighbors.
