Last night, I received notification of the 19th death of a detained person in ICE custody since Trump took office.
ICE is detaining people, mostly in private, for-profit prisons that put profit over health. And now they have furloughed the safety inspectors. This is unacceptable.
Tonight, I’m hosting my 124th town hall since coming to office. People are worried about what this Republican shutdown will mean for them, and I am in community with my constituents to answer their questions.

71% of immigrants in detention have no criminal convictions.
Yet still, 1 in 4 FBI agents have been pulled from cybercrimes, drug trafficking & anti-terrorism assignments to do immigration enforcement. This will hurt our national security.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, I’d like to take a moment to recognize Zenia Javalera, President of @seiu6.bsky.social!
As a longtime organizer for workers' rights and racial and language justice, Zenia has led SEIU6 by centering the diverse experiences of over 10,000 essential workers.
During the GOP shutdown, the mostly for-profit, private ICE detention centers are open. The safety inspectors for them have been deemed “non-essential”.
This is already the deadliest year on record for detained people in ICE facilities.

A Republican state legislator from Arizona called for me to be “tried, convicted and hanged.”
It was a disturbing call for political violence and an attempt to silence my voice and our resistance movement. It should be condemned by members on both sides of the aisle.
Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in modern history.
From taking a $400 million jet to selling his own crypto to donors, he is using the presidency to make himself richer every single day.
A reminder on the 8th day of this Republican shutdown: Speaker Johnson could call Members back to negotiate to re-open the government any time he wants. He's choosing not to.
Republicans would rather raise costs and kick millions of Americans off their health care.
ICE and DHS officials are terrorizing Chicago. Pulling children from their beds in the middle of the night, naked. Shooting people in broad daylight and throwing tear gas on busy streets. Johnson and Pritzker are protecting their constituents.

Federal workers did not ask for this shutdown — they show up every day to serve our country. In 2019, Trump himself signed a law guaranteeing them back pay after a shutdown.
Now he's going back on his word and using their paychecks as leverage. This is illegal.

Dems are launching an investigation into a recent Chicago immigration raid where people, US citizens included, were violently pulled from their beds in the middle of the night & children were zip-tied, separated from their parents.
This is appalling & there must be accountability.
Republicans are trying to blame immigrants for your skyrocketed premiums and absurdly high health care costs.
But don’t be fooled — Republicans sold us out when they slashed health care for millions of Americans to give billionaires a tax break.
Mike Johnson wants to kick the can down the road when it comes to addressing skyrocketing premiums — but this is a crisis right now.
NOW is the time to negotiate to lower costs — not after millions have been kicked off their health care.
Another day, another lie from DHS. Trump and his administration are making this country more dangerous — for both immigrants and US citizens. This lawlessness must stop.

71% of immigrants detained by ICE have no criminal convictions.
These are mostly private, for-profit prisons that put their bottom lines over health and safety. We see the results — immigrants are dying. It is absolutely outrageous.

Trump is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act and send the National Guard to our cities — completely ignoring federal judges’ orders.
This is authoritarianism — and from someone who actually incited an insurrection on Jan 6th.

The violence ICE and DHS are promoting to the threats being made against me for speaking out against it are interconnected.
We cannot allow this type of violence or violent rhetoric to be normalized.
I toured the Downtown Emergency Service Center’s brand new Opioid Recovery & Care Access Center to see the essential work they’re doing to support those facing addiction.
Their work is saving lives in our community.
A huge congrats to Seattle scientist Mary E. Brunkow for winning the Nobel Prize in medicine!
This is exactly the kind of groundbreaking work that we should be leading on — and it’s exactly why I’ll continue to fight Trump’s cuts to the NIH and research.

Chelsea White’s husband was kidnapped by ICE right in front of her at a traffic stop and was disappeared and deported to Mexico.
Trump is separating families like hers.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
