Joined Toledo Public Schools Superintendent Romules Durant to highlight $1.25 Million in federal funds for a new TPS Electric Vehicle Center at Toledo Technology Academy of Engineering. Our children are our future, and TPS is the enrichment foundation that sets them on a path toward endless promise.
A generation of US workers have been left behind by lawmakers and presidents—their jobs traded away and offshored, threatening our industrial base. We need to ensure US Steel remains authentically American with domestic ownership and a unionized workforce. www.cnn.com/2023/08/19/b...
Beautiful weather for the Toledo Labor Day Parade. It’s an honor to stand with NW Ohio workers, retirees, and our local unions. As someone who grew up in a union household I know how important solidarity can be—we stand with our trade unions today, and every single day.
To every single worker, today and every day, thank you. Let’s build a future that puts working people first, and ensure that we don’t forget that there is power in a union, and when unions fight, workers win. 1u
On this Labor Day, let us honor American workers and celebrate the hard-won accomplishments of the labor movement—like the 8-hour workday, and 5-day workweek. As we fight to raise wages and protect the right to organize, we must work to ensure that every worker’s voice is heard.
The blood, sweat, tears, and bravery of men and women who came before us and stood up against powerful forces through collective action, allowed the labor movement in this country to give voice to millions of working people and retirees while ensuring a better country for us all.
This Labor Day I’m thinking about how the labor movement and unions helped our family to succeed. My mother Anastasia helped organize the Champion Spark Plug plant in Toledo, and my father Stephen labored at the Jeep factory before saving enough to open up a small local grocery.
Visited NASA Glenn facilities in Northern Ohio with Deputy NASA Administrator Pam Melroy including NASA's Armstrong facility in Sandusky. Our region is home to one of a kind test facilities and the Aerospace Communications Facility — Glenn’s first new building in more than 3 decades.
On this International Overdose Awareness Day—highlighting funding coming to NW Ohio to combat this epidemic, and ensure first responders in rural communities have access to support they need to address mental health and substance abuse they face on the job.
Big Pharma has made record profits for decades on the backs of Americans—the Inflation Reduction Act I voted for is helping to end that. Today, President Biden announced 10 new drugs that will enter into drug price negotiations to bring savings to seniors in Ohio and across our nation.
60 years ago today, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I have a dream” speech during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. This landmark moment in the Civil Rights Movement helped lead to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Thank you to Defiance College President Richanne Mankey, VP Jeremy Taylor, Student Senate President Will Garlock, and other students and faculty for a very informative visit today. Wishing a fruitful Fall semester to all.
A great visit to the Defiance County Fair and the Junior Fair rabbit auction. Happy to be able to meet with Defiance County Sheriff Engel, State Rep. Klopfenstein, the Defiance County Commissioners, and farmers on hand.
Joined Mayor Kapszukiewicz, the City of Toledo, Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, and Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union to celebrate the Rooftops Repair Program which makes critical repairs in distressed neighborhoods—utilizing nearly $3 Million in American Rescue Plan funding I proudly voted for.
Inspiring community support on display at the East Toledo Family Center open house today. Met with local families, children, and the staff that support them and help them to grow and thrive.
In Montpelier with State Rep. Jim Hoops and State Sen. Rob McColley today honoring the heroism and bravery of veterans who put their lives on the line to defend freedom. In honor of their service, we dedicated State Route 107 as Williams County Veterans Memorial Highway.
Outstanding milkshake and hamburger from local producers at the Sandusky County Fair. Thanks to Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge, State Sen. Bill Reineke, State Rep. Gary Click, Commissioner Russ Zimmerman, the Fair Board and local leaders for their hospitality.
