A Marine veteran, Sgt. Brian McGinnis, had his hand broken by Capitol Police and a Republican Senator for exercising his First Amendment rights. Yet President Trump claims we’re sending troops to Iran to defend freedom. Start by respecting our freedoms at home.
The American people are being asked to trust an administration that has not earned it. Secretary Pete Hegseth refuses to rule out boots on the ground in Iran. He and President Trump are risking American troops for a costly war no one wants.
When I came to Congress, I saw a gap in representation for Black women & girls. With @RepYvetteClarke.bsky.social & @RepBonnie.bsky.social, we founded the Caucus on Black Women and Girls. This Women’s History Month and beyond, we make sure Black women’s contributions are seen and protected.
On #InternationalWomensDay, while Donald Trump attacks women and fuels his chaos, the @DemWomenCaucus.bsky.social is standing firm. We are standing firm against this administration’s reckless disregard for our freedoms. We’ve come too far to let bullies break us.
61 years after Bloody Sunday, we honor the bravery of those who marched, bled, and fought for our freedom and civil rights. Last year, I walked arm in arm with my colleagues across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. I won’t ever forget our power to keep marching forward.
169 years ago today, the Supreme Court denied basic rights for Black people in Dred Scott v. Sandford. President Trump is trying to drag us back to that time. I refuse to let that happen. I will continue to fight for a nation where liberty and justice for all is a reality.
No veteran should have to fight for the care they’ve already earned. If you’re experiencing issues with the VA system, you’re not alone, and you deserve to be heard. If you, or someone you know, needs assistance with a federal agency, please call my office at (708) 679-0078.
The WELLS Act, named in honor of Mercedes, will protect pregnant patients from unsafe discharges and ensure that hospitals take real steps to confront racial bias. Every mother deserves to be heard, believed, and cared for with dignity. Learn more:
Mercedes Wells & I joined @nbcnews.com to introduce the WELLS Act. Mercedes, who was discharged from a hospital while in active labor, told me she wants to be a vessel for change. Her courage to speak out will improve maternal health for her newborn daughter & many more Black women.
This morning, Chicago lays to rest Rev. Jesse Jackson, a civil rights icon, our neighbor, and my constituent who shaped the fight for justice. As I attend his memorial today, I honor his powerful legacy and impact on our city and the world. Rest in power, my friend.
Guns are the #1 killer of American kids. Yet the gun industry still markets AR‑15s to children and evades consumer protection rules that apply to every other common household item. I introduced two bills to hold the gun lobby accountable and protect our kids.
President Trump fired Kristi Noem because he knew Congress was going to remove her. My impeachment efforts against Noem gained momentum every time she opened her mouth and terrorized our country. It’s time for her to go home and never enter public service—or adopt a dog—again.
Over 60 days into 2026, and the Republican-created healthcare crisis is still impacting millions of families across the United States. Families are forced to choose between groceries and healthcare coverage. I won’t stop fighting for affordable healthcare access.
