My final amendment would increase funding for Inspectors General at the DOJ, NASA, and the NSF.
There is so much talk of eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in government these days, yet the Trump administration wants to place Inspectors Generals in a weakened position.
My amendment would protect a program that has successfully dismantled crime in cities across the United States, and protected public safety.
The Republican majority voted against the amendment.
Even FBI Director Patel said it's good return on investment, yet the President wants to dismantle the entire task force.
My next amendment would strengthen the Office of Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.
This task force is intelligence driven and results-based, in FY22 OCDETF brought in $524 million in cash and property seizures and forfeitures.
This is about basic accountability. There has been an astonishing lack of transparency around this case.
House Republicans did not allow this amendment to pass.
I introduced an amendment that directs the Attorney General to provide this committee with a full report on all files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
The Republican majority, however, chose to abandon the law enforcement officials who protected the Capitol that day and voted against this amendment.
I spoke in support of @normajtorrres.bsky.social's amendment to ensure no funds from this bill will be used for settlements with Jan. 6th insurrectionists.
It is a sad state of affairs that we have to debate whether American tax dollars should be used to settle lawsuits with individuals who attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.
My heart is with the victims, their families, and the entire Evergreen High School community after this tragic act of violence.
Our communities continue to deal with far too much grief. This has to end.
We've got to put an end to the rise in political violence.
No grievance is healed by harm.
There is absolutely no place for political violence in this country.
We should all be deeply concerned by the rise of violence, and we must condemn it in every case.
I'm praying for Charlie Kirk and his family.
@wassermanschultz.house.gov amendment would stop funds in this bill from closing down NOAA weather and climate labs and cooperative institutes.
I voted in favor of this amendment, and I'm glad to see it adopted.
NOAA research labs are essential to preparing for the devastating severe weather events that are only becoming more common, and protecting key environmental resources like the Great Lakes we rely on.
@meng.house.gov and @repespaillat.bsky.social introduced an amendment that would strike a provision in this bill that stops the ATF from regulating ghost guns.
We cannot take away ATF's ability to defend our communities from violent crime, and I proudly voted in support of this amendment.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro's amendment would restore this funding and provide the support our law enforcement needs.
I voted in support of this amendment, but the Republican majority did not let it pass.
Even Trump's own appointee was in favor of more funding than the President's budget, yet Republicans have proposed cutting the FBI by more than half a billion dollars.
The FBI is critical to keeping Americans safe, from fighting against financial crimes to combating drug cartels and protecting our communities from terrorism.
I am deeply concerned about this bill.
It's cuts to the Economic Development Administration will rip away opportunities for communities like ours to get ahead.
When we shortchange investment at home, we hand our global competitors an advantage.
We just finished opening comments on the bill.
Again and again, Republicans show the American people are not their priority.
Their proposed spending would threaten our national security, make families less safe, harm our competitiveness, and threaten women's health and safety.
