That’s why we’re approaching this from every angle. We legislate where we can, we’ll litigate where we need to, we will certainly agitate, and we will continue to communicate and educate.
These “tabletop” exercises are about stress-testing the system because we cannot assume past behavior won’t repeat.
We’ve seen plenty of rhetoric from the President that cannot be ignored.
That means planning for both prevention and response. A question I ask my team frequently is: “how do we prevent that from happening and then, if it does happen, how do we respond to it?”
So far, we’ve identified dozens of threats to the election process, and we're adding more to our list every day.
And for each one we have sort of a matrix: what we think the likelihood is and then what’s the damage that it could cause?
New reporting from @talkingpointsmemo.com takes a deeper look at the work I'm leading on the Committee on House Administration to prepare for threats to our elections.
This is about protecting the will of the voters, and making sure we’re ready for Donald Trump's corruption and chaos.🧵
We've always had a Department of Justice that was focused on protecting the American right to vote.
That's not the case with Donald Trump's DOJ. You can see how he targets groups of voters he disagrees with.
I talked about how we're going to stop him on Talking Points Memo.
On International Workers Day, we honor the strength and contributions of workers everywhere who fuel progress and shape our future.
We must focus on building an economy that rewards hard work with fair pay, strong protections, and real opportunity.
Donald Trump talks about changes to our elections in terms of how it helps the Republican party, and that's telling.
The work we are doing on the Committee on House Administration is about protecting every American's right to vote, not one party.
I talk about this and more on Talking Points Memo.
The Anti-Corruption and Democracy Reform Task Force heard from experts this week, like Daniel Schuman from the American Governance Institute, on how we can hold Congress more accountable to the public.
We're creating a more unified democracy that works for every American.
I voted NO on the Republican-led “skinny farm bill.”
This bill locks in cuts to food assistance, turns a blind eye to the rising cost of living, and asks working families to shoulder the burden. We should be fighting to restore support for families, not taking it away

Honored to welcome Rochester’s own Rabbi Peter Stein to the House as Guest Chaplain today.
Rabbi Stein opened the People's House in prayer, reflecting our nation’s deep commitment to religious freedom.
I joined Talking Points Memo to talk about the real problems we should be focusing on with American elections.
Rather than chasing voter fraud that we know doesn't exist, we should be working to engage the 80 million eligible voters who chose not to vote in the 2024 election.
President Trump likes to say voting is a privilege.
A privilege is my grandson getting five more minutes of TV before bed. Voting is a right. One that preserves all others.
Without access to the ballot box, nothing else can be guaranteed.
I spoke with Talking Points Memo about what we’re seeing ahead of the next election and why preparation matters.
This isn’t hypothetical. It’s about protecting our democracy and being ready for what could come.

Grateful to be joined by Brian Lemek from Defend the Vote at this week's Anti-Corruption and Democracy Reform Task Force meeting.
Together we're working to protect our nation's elections and fight back against any attempt to silence American voters.
Tomorrow is the LAST DAY to submit to the 2026 Congressional Art Competition!
The winning piece will be showcased in the Capitol for the next year, representing our community.

To every American who is worried right now: we see you, we hear you, and we are ready to fight.
And we will not stop until the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is the law of the land.
I will not sit by and let this corrupt Supreme Court take away these hard-won freedoms. Nor will I let the Supreme Court strip away the people’s power.
Shame on President Trump and his cronies on the Supreme Court. It is not simply a court case. This is about our right to vote. For over 60 years, the Voting Rights Act has helped protect every American’s voice at the ballot box. People marched, fought, and died for that right.
