Last week, the world learned more about the horrific story unfolding around Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland husband and father who was wrongfully detained and deported by the Trump Administration to El Salvador a little over a month ago. Read more in my newsletter ⬇️
Today, we kick off National Park Week — as the Trump Administration’s actions undermine our National Park Service’s ability to maintain and preserve these sites, their natural beauty, and their historical authenticity. Mass layoffs and efforts to whitewash history hurt all of us.

Dysfunction and turmoil at the Pentagon have reached absurd levels. Now, we’re learning that Pete Hegseth shared detailed plans about a U.S. military operation in Yemen in a second Signal group chat, this one on his personal phone and including his wife, lawyer and brother.

Pope Francis was a man of humility and profound compassion for all of God’s children. His dedication to serving the most vulnerable made him a symbol of hope and a voice for the voiceless. Today, I mourn his loss alongside the millions who looked to him as a moral and spiritual leader.

“There is a complete meltdown in the building, and this is really reflecting on the secretary’s leadership.” Turns out appointing a Fox News contributor to be the least qualified Secretary of Defense in America is going about how you would expect. Pete Hegseth should resign.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's chief of staff, Joe Kasper, will leave his role amid a week of turmoil for the Pentagon.
During this week’s recess, I answered viewer questions on 12 On Your Side, celebrated Black Maternal Health Week, met with my Youth Advisory Council and more.   Keep watching to see what you missed this week.
I swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. The Trump Administration tramples it by deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador with no due process and threatening to do the same to U.S. citizens. I joined @ivey.house.gov to demand answers and the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia.

I’m glad to see my Republican colleagues support Medicaid, but I am perplexed by their votes to advance a budget that the Congressional Budget Office says will cut Medicaid. Their votes will determine whether hundreds of thousands of Virginians keep their health insurance and hospitals stay open.
Join me Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:30 PM for an in-person town hall at the Brunswick County Conference Center! There, we’ll discuss what’s happening in Washington and how it impacts YOU — from the Trump Administration’s tariffs and funding freezes to Congressional Republican planned budget cuts.

For more information, visit McClellan.House.Gov or call (804) 486-1840. Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Starts at 6:30 PM. 100 Athletic Field Road, Lawrenceville, Virginia 23868.”
As a Black mother who almost died in childbirth, I know how important access to care is. As we close out #BlackMaternalHealthWeek and recognize today’s #MedicaidDayofAction, I spoke with @zerlinamaxwell.bsky.social about how Republican Medicaid cuts will exacerbate the maternal mortality crisis.
Trump’s flip-flopping on tariffs is causing widespread panic and uncertainty for businesses and consumers across the country. This week, I spoke with @12onyourside.com about what these tariffs mean for you.
The Trump Administration has eviscerated our public health infrastructure, costing the already understaffed VA Dept of Health $200 million and over 500 employees/contractors combatting COVID, bird flu, measles and other threats. This approach weakens our ability to keep our communities safe.
As Congressional Republicans avoid constituent town halls to answer for their actions — or lack thereof — you can join me for TWO next week. I’ll answer constituent questions about what’s happening in Washington in Brunswick on 4/22, and at the Henrico NAACP town hall in Richmond on 4/23.
I joined @12onyourside.com to answer viewer questions about what’s happening in Washington. Pat from Mechanicsville asked what Congress is doing to protect retirees, Social Security and Medicare. The fear and uncertainty among our constituents is real.
