Teamed up w/ @whitehouse.senate.gov & @magaziner.house.gov to deliver $700,000 federal earmark for the Ocean Community Y’s Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch. Great to see upgrades & new spaces now complete to boost programming & create new spaces for the community.
Happy 105th birthday to the timeless & tireless Ms. Lillian Nauta! We are grateful for her service as a U.S. Navy Nurse during WWII, & I am working w/ bipartisan colleagues to collectively award Ms. Nauta & her fellow WWII Army & Navy nurses a Congressional Gold Medal for their heroic service.
Joined @sacri-ri.bsky.social’s annual legislative leaders forum at @rhodeislandcollege.bsky.social to discuss my work to improve health care, boost affordable housing, lower costs & strengthen financial stability for RI seniors and all RIers.
The housing bill would have been even more impactful if it included my proposal to redirect $66 billion from Pres. Trump’s planned immigrant detention centers & Minneapolis-style immigration raids towards building more homes for Americans. 2/2
We need to build more housing & create strong, family-friendly neighborhoods where people can afford to live & put down roots. Today, U.S. Senate voted 89-10 to pass a new housing affordability bill that cuts red tape & increases housing opportunities. A good step forward! 1/2
Monitoring reports of deadly shooting at Old Dominion University, which is reportedly being investigated as a terrorist attack. As law enforcement investigates, I’m thankful for those who sprung into action & courageously stopped the shooter & assisted others.
Grateful for heroism of Temple Israel security & Michigan law enforcement who kept community members safe from an appalling antisemitic attack today. Good citizens across our nation must stand resolute against rising antisemitism, bigotry, & violence.
Republicans control the White House, House, & Senate and orchestrated this DHS funding lapse. Democrats have offered commonsense plan to rein in ICE & CBP while keeping the rest of DHS fully funded. GOP must join us & stop out-of-control ICE and CBP from trampling on the rights of all Americans.
Pres. Trump recklessly took our nation to war without consent from Congress or the American people. Now, GOP Senators must join us in demanding answers & accountability. Our troops deserve clarity & Americans deserve to know what this war is truly costing them in blood & treasure.
The vast majority of Americans don’t want a war with Iran. Pres. Trump started one anyways. @schumer.senate.gov, @shaheen.senate.gov & I are demanding Trump Admin officials testify under oath to explain to the public why Pres. Trump started this reckless war with Iran & the strategy going forward.
Trump Admin officials should not profit off war & death. But as prediction market betting spreads, the CFTC is letting insiders anonymously profit from wagers placed before public news of U.S. military actions, creating a dangerous breeding ground for corruption & nat’l sec risks.
Every RIer who picks up a copy of @thevalleybreeze.bsky.social on their way out of the market knows: Ethan Shorey is a powerhouse in local news & a dedicated journalist. Wishing Ethan all the best for his future endeavors!
Ethan Shorey, chief editor of The Valley Breeze, announced Wednesday he’s stepping down after 20 years with the publication. “It has been the honor of my life reporting news that matters to people where they (and I) live,” he said on social media.
Pres. Trump launched a preemptive, costly war without public support or Congressional approval. Now every member of Congress must debate & vote on whether they want to co-sign Trump’s war of choice with Iran. I’m for the bipartisan Kaine-Paul resolution & against Trump’s unauthorized war.
Pres. Trump preemptively launched war on Iran w/ no plan to evacuate Americans in harm’s way. While other countries have flown their people home, many Americans are now stranded. U.S. citizens in the region should register at step.state.gov. RIers in need may contact my office for assistance.
Kicking off Women’s History Month with the Women’s Fund of RI & inspiring women leaders who are clearing the path for progress & a brighter future for future generations. Special thanks to all of our terrific panelists today for the incredible insights & stories they shared.
