I’m glad SCOTUS agrees that Trump does not have the power to impose blanket tariffs using “emergency powers”. The power of the purse has always and will always belong to Congress. Now the hard work begins on reversing these harmful tariffs that have inflicted pain on families and small business.

Met with my friends at Lift to Rise to discuss the work they are doing to make housing more accessible in our District.   I voted for H.R.6644, Housing for the 21st Century Act, which will make it easier for organizations to find resources to build housing for much needed housing development.
I visited the Imperial County Sheriff Station to meet with Sheriff Miramontes to understand challenges & opportunities facing law enforcement in Imperial County.    We discussed public safety, community needs, & how we can work together to ensure that the residents of Imperial County feel safe.
I sent a letter to Secretary Wright urging the Administration to prioritize Lithium Valley for the Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy program. Lithium Valley has the potential to create job opportunities, strengthen manufacturing, & lowering battery costs for families.
Up until now, all presidents accepted the election results, walked away from power because they knew it belonged to the people and facilitated a peaceful transfer of power. Up until now, they respected our constitution, and didn’t blatantly use the office to enrich themselves and their family.
On this President’s Day I want to give special remembrance to our very first president, George Washington, who walked away from power when he could have kept it, respected our constitution and Democracy and gave much more to the nation than he received. All presidents have done so up until now.
This directly impacts our region and public lands. While I support common sense solutions for border security, I am requesting more clarity because border policy decisions should center around transparency, community voices, and human dignity, not secrecy and force.
