In my first few weeks as Senator I prioritized a visit to the UP, a community in Michigan that often gets overlooked by elected leaders down state. While I was there I made a point to listen to business, union, and community leaders on what I can do to fight for them back in DC. youtu.be/tUVcHRAsaRw
As a new member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I have been meeting with VA leaders across the state, including a visit to the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center this weekend, to understand how these latest cuts will impact the VA facilities Michigan relies on.
Elon Musk and DOGE know nothing about the VA, and these arbitrary cuts threaten to disrupt the services that our veterans rely on. Veterans’ benefits are earned through years of service, and we owe it to them to deliver.
The GOP budget passed last night is going to allow for unilateral cuts to programs important for Michiganders + make big, big changes to tax policy that benefit the ultra-wealthy. My job is to protect the personal & economic security of Michiganders. That’s always my guidepost.
