Happy #NationalSmallBusinessWeek! This week, I’m recognizing all the small businesses that help make West Michigan great. These businesses are the foundation of our economy, and I’m working hard to ensure our small business owners have the support they need to succeed.
Increasing Michigan-made goods is how we outcompete China & secure America’s position as a global manufacturing powerhouse. That’s why I’m working on legislation to ensure domestic manufacturers like Sun Chemical–a 200-year-old company now in Muskegon–continue leading the transportation industry.
Once again, my Republican colleagues are spending precious legislative time on a non-issue. This week, we’re voting on something that has ALREADY been decided by executive order. There’s so much important work to do, West Michigan. This is not it.
Cherry Health is Michigan’s largest Federally Qualified Health Center and a staple in our community. Great to speak with leaders & providers at their Grand Rapids location & remind them all that I’m pushing back on proposed Medicaid funding cuts that would hurt our health centers & their patients.
Today is the anniversary of the first Freedom Ride in 1961—a monumental moment in the Civil Rights Movement. Former Congressman John Lewis was one of those original riders, and I’m thinking of his words today & everyday: “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”
We ARE better than this. We DON’T have to sweep the rug out from under millions of Americans who rely on Medicaid to survive. I’m fighting back on these harmful cuts, and want to hear from you if your health care is at risk of the Republican budget slashes.
The new state-of-the-art HQ is a huge upgrade from the former building, and will be a space for Latino entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses that benefit our West Michigan community. Can’t wait to see it in its final form!
After I helped secure an $850k grant for WMHCC’s new HQ, I was proud to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility site — such a full circle moment! 👷‍♀️ 🧵
President Trump’s FY2026 budget proposes cutting LIHEAP—a program that helps West Michiganders pay their utility bills without sacrificing other necessities. I stand in support of fully funding LIHEAP and encourage my Republican colleagues to stand in support of their constituents and do the same.
There are few things more frustrating than going to book a reasonably priced hotel, then getting to the final checkout page and seeing additional fees. That’s why I proudly voted for the Hotel Fees Transparency Act, a bipartisan bill to make sure you see the ~actual~ price up front.
In his first 100 days in office, Trump has caused prices to RISE and stocks to DROP. And he says he’s just getting started. Check out my inaugural video for my new YouTube series, Straight Talk With Scholten, to hear me give it to you straight on Trump’s shrinking economy. youtu.be/Y356aV4gvkk
This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we honor our AANHPI community members and uplift their strength, resilience, and incredible contributions to our West Michigan community.
Thanks to the leaders at Goodwill of West MI for keeping our community full of goodwill for the future. We shared a productive meeting about bolstering our workforce and giving back to the community.
