President Trump’s tariffs have no favorites. Regardless of who you voted for, regardless of what business you’re in, regardless of where you live, they’re going to harm you.
Photo graphic of Peter looking through glass. The headline tear reads: "Destructive" tariff policy hurting U.S., Vermont senator says in Montreal
Pull quote reads: "These tariffs have no favorites. Whether you voted Republican or Democrat, if you've got a business, if you've got a farm, if you're in Iowa or you're in Vermont, you're in trouble with these tariffs.
-Montreal Gazette
When I met with Mohsen Mahdawi today, we spoke about how appreciative he is to have the support of so many people in Vermont. He said one of the reasons he wanted to become a citizen was because of his belief in American democracy. He hopes that justice will prevail in his case.

I just met with Mohsen Mahdawi where he’s being held in Vermont. He was detained when he showed up for his citizenship interview. He should be released so he can become a citizen.
86% of Americans support allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices. But President Trump announced he's trying to delay price negotiations so Big Pharma can charge whatever price they want for years longer. It's a win for Big Pharma and a loss for patients.
The Trump Administration is considering cutting nearly one-third of the Department of Health and Human Services, the department that keeps America healthy. All while they work to give massive tax cuts to the rich.
I join the world in mourning the loss of Pope Francis. He was a visionary leader who inspired people around the world. He reminded us that no matter our faith, the choice to love one another ties us all together.
Today, I will host a rally in Plattsburgh, New York with Congressman Tonko. Almost 1 in 4 Clinton Country residents use Medicaid, yet Republicans are planning to take away health care from millions so they can give out tax cuts to the rich. We're speaking out.
Trump's tariffs and constant threats of raising them have paralyzed our economy. Global businesses are afraid to invest, and who can blame them? That's why my colleagues and I introduced a resolution to end Trump’s reckless global tariffs. All my colleagues should join us.
President Trump has cancelled 42% of the Vermont Humanities budget. Vermont Humanities hosts events to promote reading. They run programs that help teachers. They give out grants to local theaters. Why would he be against that?

President Trump is firing trans servicemembers who keep our country safe but won't fire the officials in his Administration who put our country at risk by texting war plans.
Mohsen Mahdawi hasn't been charged with a crime. He's a legal resident and has been waiting years to become a citizen. He's spoken out against antisemitism. And yet the Trump Administration arrested him for his beliefs. It's a horrifying attack on the First Amendment.
In his inaugural address, President Trump said, "Bring back free speech to America." But he's detaining students for peacefully protesting. He's blocking media from the press pool. He's punishing law firms because of their past clients. He's restricting your right to free speech.
The White House is attacking @vanhollen.senate.gov because he’s advocating for one of his constituents. A federal court protected Kilmar Abrego Garcia and the Trump Administration deported him anyway. If only they had the same sense of duty to the Constitution as Senator Van Hollen.

Our country faces many challenges right now. One of the best ways we can make a difference is by staying informed, staying connected, and speaking out. I’m looking forward to doing all those with you on Bluesky.
