I am heartbroken to hear about the shootings that took place overnight in Minnesota. There is no place for politically motivated violence in our nation. This was a horrific and unacceptable targeting of elected officials in Minnesota’s state legislature.

This is not patriotism. It is a dangerous display more in line with authoritarian regimes than American democracy.
He has also threatened to use “heavy force” against Americans exercising their First Amendment rights to peacefully protest this spectacle. Protests are happening across the country because people recognize this for what it is.
Trump claims to support the military, but his actions tell a different story. He has pushed policies that limit access to critical care and benefits for our nation’s veterans, and he treats our service members more like political props than the heroes they are.
President Trump’s military parade is not about honoring our troops. It is a $45 million vanity project that continues to politicize our military and disrespects the values they fight to defend.

On today’s Democratic Daily Download, Caucus Chair @aguilar.house.gov speaks out against the out of control Trump Administration detaining Senator Alex Padilla and preventing him from asking questions on behalf of the people he represents.
It was a disgraceful response to a sitting U.S. Senator raising legitimate concerns on behalf of his constituents and holding the Trump administration accountable for its unlawful actions
Forcibly removing and handcuffing @padilla.senate.gov for asking a question and conducting legitimate Congressional oversight is an outrageous and egregious violation of our constitutional guardrails and democratic values.
We cannot play into his hands, and we cannot let him divide or distract us. We must stand together and unequivocally condemn these actions for what they are – an abuse of power and a threat to our democracy.
Every American has a constitutional right to peacefully protest and to speak out. Trump’s actions are authoritarian tactics, meant to intimidate and silence anyone who disagrees with him.
We must not politicize our military. They are not props for political theater or tools to silence legitimate dissent. Their duty is to defend the Constitution, not to be deployed against Americans.
Trump is clearly provoking conflict to justify authoritarian control, to punish states like California for standing up and speaking out against his cruelty, and to distract from his ‘One Big Ugly Bill’ that would strip 16 million Americans of their health care.
Marines are trained for combat, not for community policing or de-escalation. Deploying them is a deliberate provocation, masquerading as law enforcement, and it is making our community less safe.
President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard and the Marines into Los Angeles, against the clear objections of the Governor and local officials, is a dangerous and reckless escalation. These deployments are unwarranted, unlawful, and put American lives at risk.
I stand with LaMonica McIver and look forward to her name being cleared in court. Together, we will continue standing up for our communities and protecting our democracy from the abuses of power by this lawless administration.
The charges against Rep. McIver are purely politically motivated and have no legal merit. This indictment is yet another attempt by the Trump administration to intimidate Members of Congress who are doing their job of holding the executive branch accountable for its egregious overreach.
I call on my colleagues in Congress to pass permanent protections from deportation and finally deliver the security and rights these remarkable young people deserve. #HomeIsHere
DACA recipients are American in every way but on paper. The best way to honor the 13th anniversary of DACA is to secure a future where they can pursue the American Dream without fear.
We have failed to provide them with a path to citizenship, even as they pay into a system that offers them little in return.
