"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"
— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter From A Birmingham Jail
Remembering Dr. King's life and legacy as we continue his fight against injustice everywhere it exists.
A historic day in Richmond as Virginia swears in its first woman governor! Looking forward to all that the Spanberger Administration will accomplish for the Commonwealth.
Trump has no legal authority to tariff American allies to bully them into backing his brainless attempt to seize Greenland.
This is against the law, it’s a total disaster for America, and Republicans in Congress and the Supreme Court need to find their spines and stop it.
Trump's threat to tariff any country that doesn't accept go along with his idiotic Greenland nonsense is so dumb.
He's already driving some of our closest allies and trading partners into China's arms.
All of this stupidity is making Americans less safe and raising prices.
Trump and his Republican allies raised health care prices for the American people and have no plan — and no intentions — to lower them.

If there happen to be any high-ranking officials in the Trump Administration who reportedly accepted bags of cash in exchange for future government services, we hope this will help clarify how they should go about filing their tax returns.
Our letter concludes, "In crafting this example, and in the interest of additional clarity, the final regulations should further explain whether and when a payment like this is illegal."
We thank Treasury and the IRS for their attention to this matter.
Our comment asks IRS to consider a particular imaginary case:
"A political operative is a clear front runner for a high-level political job within the next six months. He is given $50,000 in cash in a bag in a parking lot... [Describe treatment under OBBBA tips provision.]"
The thing is, AS WRITTEN "The statute makes no mention of distinguishing legal from illegal activity... Congress made no indication that payments for illegal activities should be excluded from the tips rule."
It's important to clarify this point so anyone affected will know.
We ask: "There is an open question regarding the application of the tips deduction when a government official has previously received cash payments in anticipation of future favors (e.g., government contracts). The first question is whether such payments are customarily tips."
The comment was submitted by @doggett.house.gov @replindasanchez.bsky.social @chu.house.gov @repschneider.bsky.social and me, you can read it in full here: beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
We think this is an important clarification of the law, just in case something like this ever comes up.
Specifically, our official comment on the Treasury and IRS proposed rulemaking regarding qualified tips would apply “when a government official has previously received cash payments in anticipation of future favors (e.g., government contracts).”
Just, you know, hypothetically.
The US Treasury and IRS issued draft guidance for the "no tax on tips" provision of Republicans' tax law.
It's open for comment, so we submitted one asking how the provision would apply to a government official who accepts bags of cash in exchange for government contracts.
The Administration’s decision to terminate these critical mental health and addiction treatment grants was wrong from the start, but I’m glad to see they’ve reversed course after national outcry and our bipartisan letter to Secretary RFK Jr.
A win for the American people.

"Battalions of armed federal agents are moving through neighborhoods, transit hubs, malls and parking lots and staging near churches, mosques and schools. Strangers with guns have metastasized in spaces where daily life should be routine and safe. It feels like a military occupation."
An unacceptable violation of the First Amendment by the Trump Administration.
And before you even start talking about retaining classified documents lets remember that the most egregious breach by far in recent years was committed by Trump himself.
The people of Iran are showing remarkable courage in the face of repression and brutality.
They have our support and the support of freedom-loving people all over the world as they risk their lives to free their country from violence and oppression.
