The independence of the Federal Reserve is critical to the long-term health of the economy. The administration’s attempt to pressure the Fed Chair into lowering rates by launching a baseless investigation is the kind of stuff seen in third world dictatorships. Congress cannot allow this to stand.
The president said he was going to revive manufacturing by enacting tariffs on our trading partners around the world. Instead, these taxes have only driven up prices and killed good-paying manufacturing jobs nationwide. Working-class families and blue-collar workers deserve better.
Manufacturing has been contracting for most of the past year. If you drill down you'll see metal manufacturing is doing ok, because Trump pummeled their competition with tariffs. Meanwhile the downstream US firms (machinery, electronics, autos) that have to *buy* more expensive metal are screwed.
The first president since Herbert Hoover to lose jobs during a single term has now overseen the worst year of job growth outside a recession in more than two decades.
December jobs numbers are out: Employment continues to slow, and we added +50k jobs. The unemployment rate fell a tick to 4.4%. Oooph, revisions are brutal: October revised down -68k to -173k; November revised down -8k to +56k. Remember: The Fed thinks these numbers are overstated by 60k.
Just one day after ICE killed a mother and American citizen in Minneapolis, immigration officials shot two more people in Portland. The administration is sowing chaos and endangering communities across the country—and Congress must take action to hold them accountable. apnews.com/article/immi...
2025 was the worst year for job growth outside of a recession in more than two decades. The president’s reckless tariff taxes and regressive economic policies are driving up prices and killing good-paying jobs for American workers.
46,000 Missourians in #MO05 have seen their health care premiums skyrocket since Republicans allowed enhanced ACA tax credits to expire at the beginning of the year. @housedemocrats.bsky.social and I are voting today to revive these tax credits and lower costs for hardworking families.
The House will vote today on bipartisan legislation to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits. Tens of millions of Americans are counting on us. Vote YES to save their healthcare.
The actions of ICE are beyond disturbing. They are also a tragic result of the administration’s reckless, aggressive, extreme, and intentionally inflammatory mass deportation policies. Congress must immediately initiate an investigation into this horrifying killing of a civilian.
An ICE agent shot and killed a person in Minneapolis on Wednesday, federal authorities said. The shooting in a residential neighborhood comes days after the Trump administration ramped up the agency’s presence in the city. Follow live updates. nyti.ms/4qgGgYU
Last night, I was proud to stand with lawmakers at the U.S. Capitol to honor the law enforcement officials who defended our citadel of democracy five years ago. Today and every day, we give thanks for their service and sacrifice to the nation.
Not only are the president’s tariff taxes raising costs on everyday essentials for hardworking families, but they continue to crush American manufacturers and small businesses. Republicans in Congress must work with Democrats to put an end to this reckless experiment.
Fox: We're still in a manufacturing recession. 85% of the sector's GDP contracted in December. And if you read the commentary, it's costs. They blame tariffs. All of the businesses that are quoted say that those are huge headwinds, and it's still impacting their business
Republican refusal to extend ACA tax credits that help working-class families afford health care is already crushing hardworking Americans across the country. I won’t stop fighting to extend these tax credits, lower costs, and #ProtectOurCare www.kshb.com/news/local-n...
Today marks the fifth anniversary of the violent assault on the U.S. Capitol Building and our constitutional Republic, incited by the President of the United States in his despicable attempt to remain in power after knowingly losing a free and fair election. My full statement:
Attacking a veteran, who spent decades serving our country, just because he spoke out against the administration is beyond shameful. The Defense Secretary should focus on growing threats around the world, not petty politics and wrongful retribution.
Breaking news: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon will formally censure Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Arizona) and launch administrative proceedings against him to consider whether to reduce his Navy rank.
To end 2025, Congress voted on a war powers resolution to prevent the president from using military action against Venezuela, risking another regime-change quagmire. Unfortunately, 99% of Republicans voted to kill the effort. Congress cannot allow him to drag us into more unnecessary conflicts.
Trump in a single gaggle on Air Force One just threatened: -- a second strike against Venezuela -- Cuba -- Mexico -- Colombia -- Iran -- Greenland (which in turn would be an attack on the EU and Denmark)
