I have visited Adelanto and spoken with detainees about the inhumane conditions they face. This attempt to cover up neglect and abuse in ICE detention is indefensible.
People are dying in ICE detention at the highest rates in decades, and the Trump Administration is doing everything possible to dodge accountability. This policy was adopted after a former Adelanto detainee died after leaving ICE custody.
Exclusive: In a memo sent to ICE employees, acting director David Venturella said the agency is eliminating its requirement to report deaths that occur within 30 days of people being released from its custody.
This month, we honor the lives lost to gun violence. Three years ago, our community was devastated by the Monterey Park shooting, the deadliest shooting in Los Angeles County history, which took the lives of 11 beloved neighbors. Not a day goes by that we do not mourn their loss.
At a time when Americans are struggling with high grocery costs, Republicans' 2027 Agriculture funding bill is attacking federal programs that support farmers and help feed hungry families, all to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
He said inflation would be temporary. It wasn't. The evidence is everywhere: higher prices for gas, groceries, electricity, & other necessities that families rely on every day. President Trump said he doesn't think about Americans' financial situations. The American people deserve leaders who do.
At today's @waysmeanscmte.bsky.social hearing, I challenged USDT Secretary Scott Bessent on the growing affordability crisis facing American families.
Finally. Today, the House passed a bipartisian War Powers Resolution to stop Trump’s illegal war. Now, I urge my colleagues in the Senate to end this reckless war once and for all.
The House passed a resolution to block President Trump from ordering further strikes on Iran, ratcheting up pressure on the administration to find a way to end the unpopular war.
I introduced an amendment to delay the bill until this Administration provides transparency on "Defend the Spend." Republicans refused to allow a vote on it. Until we get answers, we should not be expanding President Trump's ability to interfere with childcare funding families depend on.
While parents struggle with the high cost of childcare, Republicans are advancing a bill to make it even easier for Trump to withhold funding from families and childcare providers in states he doesn't like--something Trump is already trying to do using his shady "Defend the Spend" scheme.
I've seen these appalling conditions myself repeatedly, and I have called for Adelanto's closure for a decade. Adelanto must be shut down, once and for all. Until then, we will not stop fighting for transparency, accountability, and humane treatment by Trump’s ICE.
Their demands are simple: clean drinking water, edible food, and adequate medical care. Yet, Adelanto still refuses to provide basic care and detainees are dying.
Yesterday, I visited the Adelanto ICE Processing Center with @aguilar.house.gov & @gomez.house.gov to meet with some of the 150 detainees participating in a hunger strike against unsafe and inhumane living conditions.
Trump's SNAP cuts take effect TODAY.  More than 5 million Californians rely on CalFresh to buy groceries, yet Republicans' Big Ugly Bill could cause an estimated 550,000 Californians to lose these benefits because of new burdensome red tape—not because they no longer qualify.
Happy Pride! 🌈 This June, we celebrate the LGBTQI+ community, honor those who fought for equality, & recommit ourselves to the work that remains. As a Vice Chair of the @equality.house.gov, I’ll always stand with the LGBTQI+ community & continue to work towards a more inclusive future for everyone.
Congratulations to Rancho Cucamonga’s own Shrey Parikh on winning the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee! Your talent is astonishing, further demonstrated by you spelling 32 words correctly during the spell-off, a new Bee record. You make CA-28 proud!
Breaking: Shrey Parikh, 14, of California, won the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday in a spell-off. Parikh spelled 32 words correctly during the spell-off, more than Ishaan Gupta’s 25 words. More on this year's dramatic finish and slew of prizes: https://wapo.st/3RNU9RV
