Breaking News: President-elect Trump’s advisers are said to be trying to identify a disease that could help them justify closing the U.S. border with Mexico. They have spent months trying to find the right disease to build their case.
Today I signed my Oath of Office to serve another term in the U.S. House of Representatives. I’m honored to work for my hometown of San Antonio in Congress.

The former FBI informant who accused President Biden and his son Hunter of taking a $10 million bribe from Ukraine was sentenced to 6 years in prison today.
After Alexander Smirnov was changed with lying about the bribe, he admitted the information came from Russian officials.

NEW: Rep. Gomez and I are leading 30+ members of the CHC in a letter asking Pres. Biden to direct the FBI to declassify files on surveillance of the Latino civil rights movement.
The CIA released 50+ files last month, but many of the FBI’s files remain undisclosed.

Last year, I was proud to get $500,000 to kickstart this project, which will support young women as they build healthy and stable lives through housing, workforce training, and other services. I’m looking forward to seeing the impact to come. 2/
This morning, my office joined the San Antonio YWCA for a groundbreaking ceremony at their Women’s Live and Learn Center. 1/

Great news: The Social Security Fairness Act is now law!
I was proud to co-sponsor this bill, which ends restrictions that cut Social Security benefits for teachers, first responders, and other public servants.
Soon, millions of hard-working folks will begin to get the full benefits they earned.

"Documents show the CIA and the University of Arizona had an agreement to monitor students apparently making demands for Mexican American studies classes."
For the last year, I’ve been pushing the FBI + CIA to release files on their surveillance of the Latino civil rights movement.
This week, the CIA released documents with new info about their efforts to obstruct the work of organizations that fought for civil rights. 1/

This is an important step forward for transparency and I hope the FBI will make a similar commitment by declassifying and releasing the relevant documents in their archives. 2/

San Antonio - we’re expecting a couple of extremely cold nights over the next week.
Get ready by protecting the Four P’s: people, pets, plants and pipes.
The City of San Antonio has a great list of cold weather resources👇

This afternoon, I was proud to be sworn in to represent San Antonio for another term. It’s an honor to work for my hometown and I’m looking forward to another two years.
Julián dropped by too (P.S. he’s the one on the right).
Today, President Biden is posthumously awarding the Medal of Honor to Cavazos, who died in San Antonio in 2017 at the age of 88. I hope this award is a marker of greater progress in our country’s efforts to recognize the heroism displayed by servicemembers from all walks of life. 2/
Before he became the first Hispanic Four-Star General and the namesake for Fort Cavazos, Texas’ own Richard E. Cavazos was a brave young officer who returned – again and again – to a bloody battlefield in Korea to save his wounded men. 1/

Happy New Year! Anna Valentina and I wish you all the best for 2025. (I made it quick so she could get back to watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)
My heart goes out to the victims of this morning’s attack in New Orleans and I’m praying for the survivors. The reports about the attacker’s ties to Texas are disturbing and I will be asking for a full briefing to make sure that our communities are safe from any further violence.

Jimmy Carter was a peacemaker, a devoted humanitarian, and a lifelong voice for justice and human rights across the world. In San Antonio, we will remember his legacy of service and his commitment to a brighter future for every American.
May he and Rosalynn Carter rest in peace.
