This is an important step forward for transparency and I hope the FBI will make a similar commitment by declassifying and releasing the relevant documents in their archives. 2/
For the last year, I’ve been pushing the FBI + CIA to release files on their surveillance of the Latino civil rights movement.
This week, the CIA released documents with new info about their efforts to obstruct the work of organizations that fought for civil rights. 1/

San Antonio - we’re expecting a couple of extremely cold nights over the next week.
Get ready by protecting the Four P’s: people, pets, plants and pipes.
The City of San Antonio has a great list of cold weather resources👇

This afternoon, I was proud to be sworn in to represent San Antonio for another term. It’s an honor to work for my hometown and I’m looking forward to another two years.
Julián dropped by too (P.S. he’s the one on the right).
Today, President Biden is posthumously awarding the Medal of Honor to Cavazos, who died in San Antonio in 2017 at the age of 88. I hope this award is a marker of greater progress in our country’s efforts to recognize the heroism displayed by servicemembers from all walks of life. 2/
Before he became the first Hispanic Four-Star General and the namesake for Fort Cavazos, Texas’ own Richard E. Cavazos was a brave young officer who returned – again and again – to a bloody battlefield in Korea to save his wounded men. 1/

Happy New Year! Anna Valentina and I wish you all the best for 2025. (I made it quick so she could get back to watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)
My heart goes out to the victims of this morning’s attack in New Orleans and I’m praying for the survivors. The reports about the attacker’s ties to Texas are disturbing and I will be asking for a full briefing to make sure that our communities are safe from any further violence.

Jimmy Carter was a peacemaker, a devoted humanitarian, and a lifelong voice for justice and human rights across the world. In San Antonio, we will remember his legacy of service and his commitment to a brighter future for every American.
May he and Rosalynn Carter rest in peace.

What a conversation: a name you hear all over NPR - Anas Baba - our reporter living in Gaza, on the last year. He’s lost nearly half his body weight in the last year, surviving daily strikes, to be record stories for NPR.

Congratulations to Neha Hariharaprasa on winning my 2024 Congressional App Challenge! Neha, a freshman at Brandeis HS, combined her experience growing up with eczema and her interest in coding to create an app to make life easier for those who live with the condition. Thanks to all who participated!

Another provision not getting much attention that Republicans cut from the funding bill at the direction of the wealthiest man in the world — the SUPPORT Act, bipartisan legislation key to fighting the opioid epidemic.

This week, my office joined VIA and the FTA to announce a $268 million grant we secured to support the VIA Green Line project – the first rapid transit corridor in our region!
This is one of the biggest public transit grants for our region and I was proud to make the case for the funding.

I can’t believe almost 200 years after a Mexican woman died in Texas, I’m the journalist who got to investigate her story. This started with a tip I got about potential grave desecration of a historic unkept Mexican cemetery in Comal County, north of San Antonio.

A border wall investigation from @texastribune.org:
At least 1/3 of TX landowners approached by the state have refused to let it be built on their properties. That’s forced the state to build on ranches in the middle of no where, or erect sections full of gaps.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
