Thousands of Pakistanis are protesting for democracy & are being met with violent repression. I am hearing reports that the government is using live fire & tear gas against protesters. I condemn this violence & urge the government to allow these protests to continue peacefully.
I support Sen. Sanders’ move to block the sale of offensive arms to the Israeli government. The U.S. cannot ignore Netanyahu’s continued bombardment of Gaza and indiscriminate killing of Palestinians. We must save lives, secure a lasting ceasefire, and build a path to peace.
A trans person didn’t deny your health insurance claim, a giant corporation did. An asylum seeker didn’t raise your rent, a billionaire’s private equity firm did. Our focus must be taking on the billionaires & corporate greed.
Yesterday, a man was found dead in the Rio Grande — trapped on a buoy designed by Greg Abbott to drown asylum seekers. Today, it's being reported that Texas troopers are separating migrant families at the border. Abbott has reached new lows, and it’s got to stop.
Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, & other toxins: there’s no deadline for PACT Act claims, but if you file by August 9th you can get benefits backdated to 2022. Visit VA.Gov/PACT to file. My staff can also help, call 512-691-1200. Thanks to all who served!
The Department of Veterans Affairs is urging veterans to apply for new toxic exposure benefits ahead of an 8/9 deadline. Since the PACT Act became law last August, over 600k veterans have applied for benefits — including at least 62k from TX. For more information, visit:
With the passing of Sandra Tenorio, Hays County has lost a great leader. She served as Kyle's first Hispanic Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem of Buda, and director of border & immigration issues for Gov. Richards. She opened the door for many Tejanos and leaves behind an amazing legacy.
The Dove Springs Back to School Bash shows the true power of community! It was great to meet with East Austin families & give out backpacks with local leaders. 🎒 Texas is brighter & better when we invest in our children & families.👏🏽
Anti-union laws that starve striking workers have no place in America. Senator Fetterman, Representative Adams, and I are introducing the Food Secure Strikers Act to ensure that striking workers and their families can receive SNAP benefits and make ends meet.
After no water for nearly 9 hours on the Capitol steps, I feel more confident than ever that we can make positive change in this country for working people— including winning the right to basic water breaks. Workers everywhere are counting on a federal heat rule.
LIVE NOW: I'm at the U.S. Capitol holding an all-day Vigil & Thirst Strike for Workers' Rights. Our climate is in crisis & workers in every state are dying from the heat. @POTUS must create a federal heat rule and save lives — because workers can’t wait! Follow along on my Twitter and FB pages.
SOON: I'm holding an all-day Vigil & Thirst Strike for Workers’ Rights at the U.S. Capitol. Every worker deserves the right to a basic water break, even if extremists like Greg Abbott don't think so. #WorkersCantWait for a federal workplace heat rule.
