Trump promised he'd lower prices drastically. Yet, thanks to his tariff taxes, whether you buy a cup of coffee, a new car, or almost any item at the grocery store, prices are rising. Republicans' allegiance is to their billionaire buddies, not the average American family.
Pleased an appellate court recognize what is true: Congress didn't give Trump unlimited power to raise prices with tariff taxes in a national emergency law that doesn’t even mention the word tariff. His tariff taxes are costing American families an average of $2,400 per year in higher prices.
Almost 2 months since the tragic floods in Central Texas claimed over 130 lives and the Trump Admin remains unresponsive on the impact of his staffing cuts on the National Weather Service and FEMA. Despite continued unresponsiveness, I am determined to conduct effective oversight.
On Labor Day, we honor the legacy of workers throughout history who fought for dignity on the job and safer working conditions. As Trump and Republicans continue to attack decades of progress and weaken the labor movement, I remain committed to protecting and advancing workers' rights everywhere.
After several near-catastrophic collisions, an unresponsive FAA took almost a year to deny an application that would make our airport safer. Now, expect more bureaucratic delay for an inadequate improvement called Super Charlie. I won't stop fighting for the FAA to do its job and protect our skies.
Doing the work of the Park Service, whose staff was decimated, has nothing to do with crime and everything to do with intimidation in fulfilling Trump’s previously stated desire to have generals more like Hitler and to use the military and federal law enforcement to suppress opposition.
Seeking to expand their abortion ban, TX Republicans passed a bill to allow lawsuits against anyone who manufactures, distributes, mails, or provides abortion pills in Texas. Obstructing critical care for miscarriages, pregnancy complications & more, the GOP seeks total control over women’s bodies.
As a student here myself, Bryker Woods gave me a good start. Wonderful teachers, serving as Captain of the Safety Patrol, developing my interest in international affairs through our Stamp collector club, and much more. It was an honor to receive the school’s inaugural distinguished alumnus award.
Trump Admin is finally yielding on $3.5 million of previously approved funds for AmeriCorps, which it has been blocking. This release will benefit a number of Texas AmeriCorps partners doing important work. While I'm relieved my call was heeded, this shouldn't have happened in the first place.
The Trump admin blocked over $3.5 million in already congressionally approved funds to Texas AmeriCorps partners. That means Texans aren't getting the support they need for healthcare, education, disaster relief, and more. Together with Texas colleagues, I'm demanding answers.
Trump continues to harass the Federal Reserve (potentially stoking inflation) to paper over his failed economic policies, like tariff taxes raising prices. He also regularly disparages the leadership of women, particularly women of color. Commendation to Lisa Cook for standing up to a bully.
Despite massive GOP cuts to public ed, Austin ISD schools are determined to provide quality learning. With Austin Ed Fund, I devoted Tuesday to delivering privately funded grants to creative teachers & staff while celebrating their invaluable work preparing young Austinites to pursue their dreams.
The school year just started, and children in Minneapolis are already faced with a horrific school shooting that will leave behind endless trauma. Until we have more elected officials willing to place gun safety over allegiance to the gun lobby, families will face unbearable suffering.
BREAKING: Two children were killed and 17 people injured in a shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school, police said. The shooter is also dead.
Let’s call this for what it is: The DOJ's decision to reject decades of federal support for Hispanic-serving colleges is rooted in racism. Hispanics are the largest growing demographic in Texas. Our HSI's lift students up, including many in Austin. But Trump is fixated on putting students down.
Great to join Exec Board Chair Shellie Hayes-McMahon, Angel Carroll, Pam King & Zenette Dorsey in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas. As Trump slashes vital funding for education/youth services, it’s important to show up for our friends and neighbors fighting to bridge the gap.
Those who pay the greatest price for the war in Gaza, which Netanyahu’s own military have urged him to cease. His extremist policies have abandoned both Palestinian children and Israeli hostages to painful deaths.
Excellent reporting by @kutnathan.bsky.social, who consistently presses for transparency from a federal agency doing too little, too late to protect public safety. I'll continue to forcefully advocate that the FAA do better by providing Austin the air traffic controllers and support we need.
