House GOP proves again this week that they aren't serious about fiscal responsibility, choosing instead to further rig the tax code to benefit billionaires.
Their budget reconciliation bill will drive us deeper into debt, which threatens the solvency of Social Security and Medicare.

Hostage families and other Israelis lack an accountable government. Instead of prioritizing release of the hostages, Netanyahu is intent on starving Palestinians and driving them from a homeland that he is making uninhabitable. (2/2)
Great joy with the release of Edan Alexander, the last living American citizen held by Hamas. Trump was right to secure his release, bypassing Netanyahu, who long ago abandoned all of the hostages, as their families have affirmed, to pursue his own political objectives. (1/2)
Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" will massively cut Medicaid, leaving millions without access to affordable health care.
This won't just have a devastating impact on rural areas; half the babies born in Austin rely on Medicaid.
Republicans have a choice to make: their constituents or Trump?
House GOP claims to care about our national debt, but the solution offered this week in Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" will make it up to $7 trillion worse.
I joined @velshimsnbc.bsky.social to discuss how the GOP is so wedded to Trump & billionaires that they’re preparing to wreck our economy.
Every year, I have the privilege of nominating some of Austin's brightest students to our US military academies. A pleasure to honor my largest class yet of 13 students who will attend West Point, the Naval and Air Force Academies.
Congrats, and thank you for your future service!
Begging Big Pharma to show some benevolence to the taxpayers and consumers, whom they continue to price gouge, will do nothing to assure access to affordable medications.
Read my full statement regarding Trump's meaningless Executive Order on drug prices:
Trump continues to surrender to our adversaries by dismantling Radio Free Asia, which the US established in response to Tiananmen Square.
Xi Jinping celebrates as Chinese propaganda now goes unchallenged. Brave journalists silenced by the very nation whose belief in press freedom inspired them.
Texas has 16 top-tier universities that contribute billions per year to our economy & attract students from all over.
As explained by Prof Beck, SB 37, a #txlege bill under review, would undermine our first-class public universities by censoring curriculum that challenges students to think freely.
Another petty, disrespectful move with no justification given against an outstanding leader who enjoyed bipartisan support.

At Congregation Beth Israel celebrating the Bat Mitzvah of our impressive friend, Edith Holland, with her mother, Sarah, who previously served as my able District Director.
Beginning with a chainsaw, ending in a whimper, Musk will exit D.C. probably costing taxpayers, not saving promised $2 trillion.
Read more about his boomeranging chainsaw:
Republicans' chaotic policies and Trump's tariff taxes are unleashing big challenges for Austin businesses.
Trump's tariffs mean higher prices, eventual shortages, and some small business closures.
More contradictions, lies, and divisive language. The distraction and risk to our national security is Pete Hegseth, not a successful program ensuring we engage with women and children in war zones to gather information and reach peace.
As a member of the Labor Caucus, I'm standing with AFGE and all Austin public service workers in the fight against Trump/Musk’s dismantling of critical services we all rely on – including Social Security, IRS tax returns, veterans’ care, and safe food and water.

It’s #TeacherAppreciationWeek!
Teachers give their time, heart, and even their own resources to help our children thrive. Let’s honor their impact—not just with thanks, but by fighting for the support and resources they deserve.

With current air traffic controller staffing at our airport under 50%, Austin has one of the most severe shortages in the country. To improve safety in our skies, we must be better prioritized by the FAA.
The Trump Administration's new plan fails to adequately deliver for our region.
House Republicans are so unserious and out of touch with problems the average family faces that the ONLY bill we voted on today is one to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico.
If we're just throwing out names based on GOP incompetence, how about: Gulf of Just Two Dolls Instead of 30
An independent panel charged with investigating aircraft near misses, like we have had in Austin, and other air traffic control failures was summarily dismissed by the Trump administration without explanation.
Air safety is hardly a Trump priority.
