With DOGE slashing the federal workforce, Trump has FIRED more military vets than any President in history, with more unjustified terminations ahead. The GOP either supports firings or is cowed into silence. Trump adviser Alina Habba says ousted vets may not be "fit to have a job at this moment."
With tax season in full swing, the IRS should be focused on helping Americans—not firing dedicated workers.    Proud to join @doggett.house.gov , @ross.house.gov, and 130+ of my colleagues in condemning these harmful cuts and demanding transparency on how the agency plans to mitigate the fallout.
More than 130 Democrats are condemning the Trump administration’s firing of thousands of IRS employees during tax filing season, saying it may put a dent in compliance efforts and taxpayer service.
Science matters, whether fighting the climate crisis, measles outbreak, or cyber crimes. Ignorance and conspiracy theories will cost lives and impair our economic competitiveness. (2/2)
This Friday, March 7, at 5 pm on the Texas State Capitol south steps, I am speaking at a public event to Stand Up for Science as part of a national day of action. Essential to engage more and more neighbors in rejecting the science deniers. (1/2)
Congrats to Dr. Michelle Smith, a trusted early childhood leader, on her appointment as interim CEO of Every Texan. For decades, Every Texan has been an invaluable source for objective information about the indifference of the State of Texas and the Trump admin to the needs of so many Texans.
It is a shocking blow to the House of Representatives and Texans to lose so suddenly the strong voice of Congressman Sylvester Turner—with us last night, gone today. Libby and I offer our prayers and condolences to his family, staff, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
In the middle of tax season, Trump/Musk want to make it harder for you to get an IRS refund & easier for rich tax cheats to avoid paying their fair share. The richest 1% already avoid paying about $160 billion in tax each year & DOGE is doubling down on this fraud and abuse. I'm demanding answers.
Trump doesn’t like fact-checking since so many of his claims don’t match the facts. The People’s House must not be left unchecked to a wannabe tyrant spewing lies. (2/2)
While some of my equally outraged colleagues chose not to attend, I chose to confront Trump face-to-face & confront his lies one by one. Unlike a Republican colleague who yelled out ‘You lie!’ years ago during a Joint Session speech by President Obama, I chose to raise a sign saying ‘FALSE.’ (1/2)
In typical Trump fashion, he resorts to anti-immigrant hysteria to distract from his failures. Trump's claim that he's only targeting violent criminals is a lie; he's ready to dispatch armed immigration personnel into schools, churches and hospitals. (1/2)
But I think most Central Texans will particularly feel the impact when they grab something off the store shelf for which they’ll be paying more because Trump broke his promises. (3/3)
He promised to protect our healthcare and not undermine the Affordable Care Act, and to "love" Medicaid, but these are just more broken promises. I’m concerned about the way he has permitted Elon Musk to callously disrupt the lives of so many, and about Trump’s power grabs. (2/3)
Trump’s speech coincides with his imposition of a new 25% grocery tax on fresh produce and everything else upon which we rely from Mexico and Canada. Despite his repeated promises, he has done nothing to lower prices, and now he’s spiking them. (1/3)
Trump and Vance disgraced the Oval Office when they berated Ukrainian President Zelensky on behalf of Putin. I'm showing my full support tonight for Ukraine fighting to preserve democracy and the rule of law by wearing its national colors and the Ukrainian flag pin I display daily on my lapel.
Eat your vegetables, but get them immediately. The price is going up because instead of lowering prices as promised, Trump imposed a 25% grocery tax with tariffs on every vegetable & all other imports we rely on from Mexico and Canada. American families will pay the price for his costly trade war.
As Trump attacks the agency responsible for tracking the weather and climate crisis, 2,500+ scientists are pushing back to demand decades of research aren't upended. Denying science and mass-firing hundreds isn't a solution. It undermines our ability to protect lives, the economy & infrastructure.
The Department of Government Efficiency isn’t just an inaccurate name, its savings claims are also wrong. DOGE is a dodge from accountability—a sideshow to distract from trillions Republicans are preparing to add to our national debt as they enable Musk/Trump & billionaires to get more tax breaks.
