PS This was my first time “managing” time on the House floor - meaning I controlled and allocated time on debate of the amendment.

That’s why, as Vice Ranking Member of the House of Natural Resources, I spoke against this NDAA amendment, and ultimately, I’m grateful my colleagues came together in a bipartisan manner to ensure this language was not included in the final version of the annual defense bill.
Exempting the DoD from compliance with the Endangered Species Act would remove our military’s unique advantage to navigate these realistic environments, harming our military readiness.
The Department of Defense covers millions of acres of natural habitats on its bases – habitats that are used by our military to train in realistic environments.
If you weren’t able to join us, we have an in-person town hall coming up in October with @oagmaryland.bsky.social and @brookelierman.bsky.social. Stay tuned for details!
Thank you to everyone who joined #TeamElfreth for our first telephone town hall last night! It was our biggest town hall yet — over 3,700 people dialed in with questions ranging from a potential government shutdown, to how we solve the affordability crisis, to restoring trust in Congress & more.
Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month! Over the coming days, we celebrate the rich history, and culture of our Hispanic and Latino communities. Their countless contributions make Maryland and our nation stronger each and every day.

🗳️Today is National Voter Registration Day – AND if you’re in Annapolis, it’s Election Day! Our Founders fought for our fundamental right to democratically elect our leaders and thousands fought over the last three centuries to expand that right for more Americans.

For the past 94 years, that poem has been our national anthem, reminding us not only of our perseverance and resilience as a nation but of the values that have shaped our country – freedom and bravery to fight for liberty and justice for all.
”That our flag was still there”
211 years ago today, Francis Scott Key immortalized the moment when our country won a hard-fought battle with the British and our flag remained flying over Baltimore’s own Fort McHenry in his poem “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Finally, a special thank you to Janice Hayes Williams and the Friends of Crownsville for their unwavering commitment to honoring the lives lost and ensuring every individual is recognized with dignity.
While I was stuck in DC for votes, I'm grateful my team could join and present a citation in honor of the Marylanders who lived, worked, and lost their lives in the Crownsville State Hospital.
This was a long overdue act and an important reminder that we must recognize even the darkest parts of our history so that, as First Lady Dawn Moore said, that we will never go back.
Last week, for the first time, more than 1,700 patients – many of whom died from mistreatment and neglect at Maryland’s historic Black hospital – will have their names properly honored and recognized in the Say My Name Memorial.
In 2001, Janice Hayes Williams rode shotgun with her Uncle George to visit the Crownsville Hospital Patient Cemetery for the first time – what she saw devastated her. On the gravestones where there should have been names, dates, or any dedication to someone’s life, there were only numbers.
We’re just one day away from our telephone town hall happening Monday, September 15 at 7:30 PM. You can still RSVP at the link below to join – come prepared with your questions, and be part of the conversation. 📞
