Firing 168 National Science Foundation employees is a devastating loss of expertise and institutional knowledge, especially at an agency that contributes so much valuable research on everything from public health to our national defense.
My office has received thousands of messages and calls from constituents concerned about the Trump Administration's actions. I hear you. I'm hosting a telephone town hall on Thursday, February 20, at 7 p.m. CT to answer your questions on what's happening in Washington.
My heart is with the Aurora community today as we remember the innocent lives lost and the police officers harmed in the Henry Pratt shooting six years ago. Congress can and must do more to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
When given the choice between defending scientific fact & indulging conspiracy theories, RFK Jr. has chosen the latter every single time. When the US faces the next public health crisis, I hope that my sensible GOP colleagues put scientific integrity & American lives over their allegiance to Trump.
The CFPB has returned $20 BILLION to Americans harmed by scammers, predatory lenders, and big banks. Trump and Elon want to dismantle the CFPB and open the door for bad actors to rip off consumers without consequence. We won't stand for it.
A good read on DOGE's ill-advised NIH funding cuts: goodscience.substack.com/p/indirect-c... In fact, when the previous Trump Administration tried this in 2017, the Republican Congress explicitly forbade it:
This is dangerously irresponsible on every level. Indiscriminately slashing this funding will cripple lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction.
Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, reminded us yesterday that he is going to dismantle the CFPB—the only federal agency dedicated solely to looking out for our nation’s consumers in the financial marketplace. @housedemocrats.bsky.social won't stand for it. #HandsOffCFPB #ReopenCFPB
Trump's EOs targeting the LGBTQ+ community are shameful. All people deserve to be protected from discrimination and treated equally as their authentic selves. Our nation has made tremendous progress in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights; I will stand firmly against any efforts to force us backward.
ICYMI: I visited the Treasury this week to try to shed some light on why Team Musk was allowed unprecedented access to U.S. citizen's private data. We weren't allowed past the gate. No one elected Elon Musk. I will keep fighting to get my constituents the answers they deserve.
